Hear hear...
Here is a great DFO thread on the Ludwig prototype first generation Acrolite snare.... even has comment from Mike L. in the post...

Haha I’m sorry- I didn’t see that you referenced one of them!

No problem.... I wonder if the original poster OptikDrums still has his Acrolite drum from that time in 2016 and whether he has any more information to share on them?

Never heard of aluminum Luddy hoops. They look NOB to me. Shell is clearly old.
Can I see a badge closeup? How is the grommet? Lug mount screw photos? Is it a P83 and P32? I assume no date but is the muffler small knob or red bat? I'm no expert but I'd like more evidence.....

That's awesome if it is from '62....

Yes the aluminum hoops have been well established and documented on the early Acro’s

I saw the post from vintage drum forum so definitely there was aluminum hoops. Thanks, folks.

Neither of those 1962 photos announcing the Acro show Imperial lugs. I don't know enough about the old lugs to tell the nuances. I'd still like to see The Grommet from behind and a close-up of the badge.
This is exciting.....

I’ll post more pictures tomorrow first thing. I’m currently on vacation!
I’ve actually removed the aluminum hoops to keep them safe while we record. But yes, they’re both aluminum and light as a feather. There are no marks to indicate bowties we’re ever on the drum etc. Not a single thing looks like it had been doctored in any way.
I’ll let the pics speak for themselves tomorrow!

I’ve come across a few different things. I’ll try and find the thread, but one member suggested the imperial lug, small round muffler was an actual prototype, not just the first gens, which likely came around 62’… possibly while waiting for the first batch of bowties designed specifically for the acrolite.
I do remember them saying something to effect of “Unless you were there, we really have no idea what was happening then”.
Actually I could be wrong but are the bowties used on the Acrolites the same as the ones used on the Pioneers at that time? If so, one would think that Ludwig would have a good supply of them to use.....just curious and adding to the conversation :)

I don’t believe so as the bowties on the acrolite have a notch or groove to sit flush on the acros embossed ridge.
