I just checked the serial number and this is a 1980 or 1981 drum.

^^^ Nope 12 plies of select Rosewood, no veneer here. I have the same drum (once owned and played by Joe English) and it is an amazing snare drum, possibly the loudest snare drum I own, but can be as soft and sensitive as you like as well. They later went to 10 plies with the longer lugs, and the finish was much lighter than the 12 ply drums.

I've always wanted one of these and went with the Gretsch Rosewood. I'm sure one this old and in this shape sounds incredible. Rosewood is my favorite wood for snares.

I had the chance to buy one just like that for $200 in 1997 but I bought a RocketShell carbon fiber instead because it was 50 bucks cheaper.

Big dumb decision I've long regretted.

I'll soon be selling my reissue for anyone looking. Expensive, but not reverb currently expensive!
