I bought the DW's last year, dated June 1996, and I like toms mounted on bass rather than in snare stand or using heavy clamps on stands.

Many of you already know that Josh Allen of Inde Drum Labs is a great designer, deals with clients personally and is a good guy.
Offers light weight solutions, no holes drilled, drums can be reverted to original state.

I wanted to get a double tom mount version of that and it looks like they have discontinued it. All I see now is what looks like a double mount for a stand and not for the bass drum.

This is the current double. It can connect to the 10.5mm aluminum stem of old and new. I think the first double was just two gearless mounts on a single stem. I recall it had bounce issues.

Cool kit.

Close to the core of my kit. I purchased in 97, could have been made in 96. Satin oil 8 10 12 14 20 4.5
I am using another kick and snare, but still love the toms.

That mount is really far up front. I’d already have a BR2 if my 83 Ludwig bass drum wasn’t drilled so far out like that. Don’t know how you can deal but apparently it works for you. Me, I want everything scrunched up tightly except my legs.

This is the issue I have as well. I've almost pulled the trigger on one of these mounts for my Conway Slingerland kit, but when I visualise where the tom will sit, I see it either too far forward or backward.

Never occurred to me...maybe the pic makes it look farther than it is? It does work for me. I'm 5'10" so average reach.
The tom is exactly where it would be if it was on a snare stand except further to my right. And yup, I need a BR3 bracket for the 12" tom ;)

Well I pretty much can judge it approximately by the lug positions, and it’s pretty far out I think. But if it’s working for you, that’s all that matters. My opinion means squat ;)

Today I tried replacing the black DW, (Gibraltar style), tom mount with a BR2 bracket and it will not fit onto the DW tom suspension mount without the bolts contacting/scratching the shell.

The Inde bolts and nuts are the same size as the DW ones but the DW is designed is so tight that even with 3 washers on each, to make the bolt shorter, the bolt is still too long. It can't protrude past the bolt or it contacts the shell when installed.

First pic shows BR2 attached with 3 washers, second pic shows the result, bolt is still too long to fit.

I guess I will try adding a fourth washer but that may weaken the already "springy" BR2 mount?

Or get a different suspension mount that is not so tight to the shell, like a Gretsch? Wanted to keep the DW vibe.

Any ideas on how to successfully fit a BR2 onto a DW suspension mount greatly appreciated, thanks!

First oic shows BR3 w 3 washers,
hey man .... i thought the tom mount was right on your drum , not on a rim mount
you need a br3 mount , if you're gonna attach it to your drum .... right now you have an isolation mount the way it is
here's a pic . of my ludwig tom with the br3 .... hope it helps .... right now you're putting an iso mount on a iso mount ..

I tried thicker washers but even when flush with the shell, the Inde nuts are just a fraction too big to fit using the old DW suspension mount,
I will have to put the old black DW mount back on for now,

yes, BR3 will work, thanks Bob!

So you guys with these tom mounts…Josh says there’s a spot where you mount the time for best results. Is that a common spot on all of them or will it vary wildly?

First oic shows BR3 w 3 washers,
There's really no need to add a BR2 onto the STM unless you just like the all-Inde look. How about a DW bracket in chrome?

the solution is to get the drilled version and put it where it belongs. Like so:

For the life of me, I don't understand this current aversion to attaching things to the shell. There are holes drilled for the lugs. That's 32 holes on a typical drum right there. The vent - that's a big ol' hole that has no reason to exist other than to be a hole. On purpose.
This tom mount works great, by the way. I prefer the ratchet design to the ball arm because you get more lateral extension if you need it.

I agree with you, prefer toms mounted on bass drum, (long recent thread here about that),

in my case, in the past I drilled holes in drums and learned to regret it, these 1996 drums are great to play at gigs, so there is some wear, but I don't want to drill holes,
I think it would de-value them, and some day my kids may want to sell them,

Inde mount allows mount on bass no holes, saves weight is solid!
