We've brought back our 2020 Gretsch Catalina Special Edition kit for another run!
This time we substituted the stock wood hoops with 2.3mm triple-flanged hoops and added Evans Calftones.

This configuration is:
18 x 14 Bass Drum
12 x 8 Tom
14 x 14 Floor Tom
5.5x14 Snare Drum

Cymbals:
22" Zildjian K Constantinople Ride modified by Jesse Simpson
19" Zildjian Sound Lab Prototype Flat Ride
14" Zildjian Vintage 70s Avedis Hi-Hats

Enjoy!

Always love your demo vids.
Really nice work.

With that said ... I like the wood hoops sound on these drums better (not that you were looking for input on that).
I pulled up the other video you made and did a side by side comparison.
There's just a more pleasant sound with the wood hoops.
They put out a rounder and more pure tone.
The steel hoops seem to increase the (don't laugh at me) metalic(?) highs in the toms.
I used the word "metalic" because when I did the side by side, I could hear the influence those hoops had on the toms ... especially the high tom.
It had an unpleasant overtone that honestly had similarities to hitting a piece of metal.
I would never have made that connection without the visual links, I don't think.
Most likely my brain kicking it over to that.
But it's there nonetheless.
I will say that I like the sound of that snare in the second one. Most likely a head choice influence there though, as it didn't seem to have those odd overtones.
So, for what it's worth (not a lot) ... that's my takeaway.

wow I didn't know they could sound that good; I like that you used the snare also (continuity of sound).
very very Nice; maybe it's the heads too, but the shells are Nice.
I very much like the sound with the steel hoops also.

and you found 2.3 mil 5 lug hoops for the 12.
Where'd you get the hoops.

And the Kerope 22" is/was it a medium? or the original

This is actually great to hear! We do these so people can compare and go with what they prefer. Agreed, the wood hoops are much warmer. We actually recorded an album using diecast hoops on this kit, so that'll be out in a few months as well!

We are starting to like the Evan's calftones over the Remo fiberskyns! They seem to project a little more. I believe we got the hoops from either Drumsonsale.com or Drumfactorydirect.com.
I think you meant the K Con cymbal? It's a Renaissance ride!
