Slightly off topic, but I've never understood the love for center lugs. Those long tuning rods just scream "bend me!" I would be constantly scared of any bump bending the rods and having to replace them again.
Yep, I wouldn't be transporting them in soft cases.

I've always dug the look of center lug drums and just picked up an early 60's set. But wouldn't you know it half the lugs are bent dang it!
That sucks , I’ve always liked the center lug kits myself ..
Finally got one this year ….

From what I've heard, Club Dates seem to be a bit fuller, more open in tone. I think the center lug is placed at the "nodal" point of the shell, with most of the shell vibration and resonance happening in the immediate areas of the top/bottom heads. Therefore, the shell has a more natural ability to resonate unimpeded.
