Scored a 64 Ludwig 12x8 tom on eBay for only $30.00. Previous owner removed wrap and decide to paint black inside and out. With some patience and CITRI STRIP I removed all the paint to reveal that the outer ply is mahogany.
Since I was planning to add the 12x8 to my existing refinished '72 luddy the mahogany exterior is a no no ( Existing kit is maple with a light amber tone and Shellac) My dilemma is veneer the 12x8 with maple and stain as rest of kit or...... re-wrap and sell ?
If veneer what is the best method to use Contact Cement ? Spread carpenter glue and then use a hot iron? Just put glue and let it dry?

I have attached a picture of the floor tom of the kit showing the color.

I would sell and look for another one. If you veneer it, you run the risk of the heads not fitting properly. Plus, it will be almost impossible to match it to your other shells.

Do you have a pic of the tom in question? If you decide to sell it do the buyer a favor, and DON'T use contact cement to wrap it---better yet don't wrap it at all
