After working with a lot of toms, I would really like to know what a 9" 10" and 11" rack tom configuration would be like. I feel like an 8" is a bit too small, and a 12" inch is a bit too big. Hard to get heads though.

FWIW, I have seen Remo 9” and 11” heads in stores.

It’s always been said they’ll make you just about any size, but you have to wait and you pay extra.

Got a set of special-order 20” Emperor tom heads in the basement right now, were $35-ish each.

I think procuring rims would be more difficult and expensive.

I'd love a set of 9" and 11" toms.

I've got an 11" Granstar Custom tom. A bit tricky to find heads, but not impossible. A couple of times a store has basically given them to me because nobody's ever bought them.

This set I made has 6,8,9,10,11,13,15 and 17" toms. Normally I play Attack clears but, only Remo makes the odd sizes so, I had to integrate them. They sound a little muted comparing but, it's not noticeable when the whole set is engaged. I love the odd sizes.
