No idea on your main question but for that money I think you got a nice shell that would polish up nicely. Is that metal, some patented material or a wrap ? Remo has a site that might answer the identity issue.

Some people like the later generation Acousticon shells. It’s a fiber composite. If you already have a replacement for the hoop and the strainer, you did all right.

I know that the material is Advanced Acousticon(one of the later formulas that isn’t print to caving in.)

the finish is weird, metallic at the edges, but matte in the middle, with a weird texture.

The strainer can be used, I don’t have an extra hoop, though.

I recall that Louie Bellson had a snare like that in amongst the equipment he brought to play on his visits to his hometown for a series of annual concerts he did in the early 2000s. I had the privilege of helping him set up on a number of occasions. I don't recall if he ever used that particular snare but I do recall that at least one year he had one in the case as his spare snare.

Seems to me I vaguely recall Jeff Hamilton once using a whole set in that finish.

Interesting, as I've got a turn-of-the-century (I think!) Remo Mondo kit with the hard molded bearing edges (Master Edge?), and I've been trying to understand the transition from these shells/edges to the Gold Crown drums.

Can we see some good pictures of the bearing edges on your Gold Crown snare?

Thanks
John

As stated above, Gold Crown series drums with 'Advanced Acousticon' shells were utilized in Remo's final Pro-level drumset line and they were pretty expensive. Looks like a genuine bargain at 60 bucks, wish I'd seen it first!

According to a previous Reverb listing "These are a really cool finish, I can't call it a wrap, it is a treated phenolic, "Metalized Acousticon" with die cast hoops, 45 degree bearing edges."

Clean it up & replace any missing components, it'll be worth it

Gold Crown for $60?! Wow, a SMOKIN' deal in my eyes. Nice job. Fantastic drum.
