I was hoping for a more closed mesh head that makes a better match with L80/Gen16's.

My preference for them.. what a wish.. but....... Bring back the lineup from late 80's early 90's.. with YESS.. Same models and finishes... Case Closed..
Although a majority of my Yamahas are from the 1990s (RC, MC, MCA, and two BCs), I'm very okay with their current offerings. I'd have no hesitation picking up an AHM to replace my MC or MCA. I just wish the AHM had a wider range of drum sizes and finishes, but I think the drums themselves are worthy replacements in their maple lineup. I miss the option of a 14x10" rack tom, or a 20" BD with a 14" depth (I believe they make that size in marching BDs). And I've never had a 15" FT before, that'd be nice!

Also, the Yamaha website is kind of hard to navigate for me. It's not very drums-focused, and then when I find what I wanted, I realize I had to dive through multiple pages to get to it. Not intuitive in my opinion; seems like it was designed by a committee that's more interested in selling dirt bikes than drums.

Didn't they have a really good standalone Yamaha Drums website in the previous decade or so? I seem to remember something that was a lot better than the current setup.

To be fair, I think they were going for the vintage vibe thing with a vintage styled poster

Those are quite rare, as Yamaha unfortunately don’t offer that size as regular order. A size (like the 15” floor) many want back from them.
