Hi! Just bought this Ludwig Black Diamond Pearl (Monroe badge) on an auction. Can anybody help me figuring out when it's made? The only thing I know is, that it's post-1985 (because of the Monroe badge). I have had no luck using the serial number..

Thanks!

After 2002 is the best I can tell you. I’m a little jealous of your finish. I was going to get mine in BDP but Ludwig wouldn’t do inlays on the hoops back then and I thought it looked wrong. With a head off can you count the plys of the shell? Older Classic Maple were 9 ply, newer 7

Thanks a lot for your help!! Is your serial number from 2002? I haven't picked up the drums yet, but I will count the plys as soon as I get my hand on them..

I'm thinking these could be early 2000's. be sure to check the wrap carefully as finishes like BDP, WMP and Oyster Black from this period were known to crack and shrink in places.
