Just wrapped up a show in Owensboro, Ky. Got a great compliment from Cage the Elephant guitarist Brad Shultz who came by for our last set. Great night.

Not exactly a show, but collaborating with my band, and a couple of local guest artists who are writing a song to record in the studio for a CD single to sell as a fundraiser for a charity.

My band and I learned this song today.
As soon as our friend Thomas strummed
the first riffs I already had a hard rock
groove mapped out in my head for
this awesome song.
My bassist Jo and I immediately nailed
the dynamics for the verse groove.
By next Sunday's rehearsal I'll have
a polished consistent groove for
the band to build on.

The two artists (Niki Kaos, vocals;
and Thomas Hogan, guitar) asked
my band to lend some wall of sound
for their project...

We'll have a finished product soon.
Minus my "scream queen"

Played a party last night outdoors on a beautiful night in Texas. Probably will end up being the best weather of the year so I'm glad I got to enjoy it with the band.

I absolutely LOVE that blacklight setup!!!

Lately I've been thinking about designing a blacklight front reso head artwork for my band logo, and installing the blacklight (LED type) on the inside of the kick behind the front head.
I would do that with Remo white coated heads, or I would paint the artwork inside Remo clear smooth heads. But in any case, your blacklight setup is inspiring some crazy DIY ideas in my head!

But, in your setup, the blacklight location is excellent, because it highlights your kit wherever it has any type of color that is blacklightable... and it also highlights band members and objects on stage nearby.

Thanks! I was really surprised by how bright it glowed, like a beacon. Funny you should mention the light on the inside of the drum, as guys in the band suggested the same. I would love to see how that would look. I can't do it with this head since unbeknownst to my band mates, the name of my former band is scrawled underneath and will show through. If they only knew.

You can do your current band name logo on a new head the way you painted this one, with just your current band's logo.

As for a blacklight inside the kick drum,
avoid the usual old-school light bulbs as they get so hot they could melt the drum head or become a fire hazard inside the kick drum... try the new LED blacklight strip that will fit widthwise inside the kick and mount it securely somehow to prevent it from bouncing around inside the shell. I think the LED version would be safer as it might not generate heat like the old-school 60watt bulbs do.

Would be nice if LED blacklights were made with sound sensors that you could dial in to flash to the rhythm of your kick drum as an added light show effect.

I have a couple of large LED eyed Halloween skulls that I wanna mount on my kit to fit my band theme ("voodoo").
For now I just have non-light plastic hollow skulls mounted to my cymbal arms, lol.
