Saturday night was a night of a few firsts;

First time out with the new band playing a whole night of music; all covers but most of them I have never played in a band before
First gig of 2022; last gig was October of last year when the last band ended
First gig with the 83 Imperialstars; they sounded and played exactly as I hoped they would

I literally (*note correct usage) played my first show this year outside a popsicle stand in midtown Toronto this past weekend. We played there last summer as well, and had a bigger turnout this time around with lots of young families. You can't see any of that, as everyone was seated on a patio to the left and on the lawn of the church across the street.

No hi fi recording was attained, but here's some audience cell phone video of a few tunes:
Nice! One of my bands plays some Dead stuff as well.

Coming up on Friday night June 17th,
and I had just learned that my band
The VaVaVoodoos are nominated for
an award.
I'm humbled, honored, and most grateful.
This is a first major milestone level
I have ever achieved as a member of
a professional local band, in my entire
adult life as a musician.
If this ain't Living The Dream,
I don't know what it is...

Thanks brother!
Yes I'm stoked, and also nervous
because I don't know what to expect.
I'm also the shyest member in my band
when it comes to situations in which
we might have to give some kind
of speech or interview.

But this award ceremony is also fun,
as it was put together by the organizers
as a mockery to the Grammys, lol.

Last night at Pauly's Hotel in Albany NY,
with headliner Jeremy Porter & the Tucos
from Detroit. We had a blast!

Unfortunately, Jeremy's drummer had
a technical emergency and couldn't
make it to Albany.
So, Jeremy and his bassist played a
few songs on their own; and then
they invited me to sit in as their
guest drummer for a few songs.
They closed the show with my favorite
cover, The Monkees "Steppin Stone"
and together we tore it up!
Wish I had caught it on video!

I'll have video footage of my band
uploaded to YouTube later on today.
Right now I'm editing the footage
to polish the audio.
Meanwhile, here's a pic...

...I finally got to debut my roto-toms kit
on stage. My kick drum and snare were
Close-mic'ed, and one overhead mic
for the toms and cymbals.
It was a great mix. I was doubtful that
my roto-toms wouldn't sound projective,
but on the contrary they sounded good
on stage with just the one overhead mic.
So, I think I'll continue using this
Roto-tom kit setup for a while until
I'm ready to switch to acoustic toms
now-n-then.
Kudos to our soundguy Shane Omac
for managing the drum mix and the
overall live stage sound!
