I was told that Zildjian gongs (and probably Sabian) are actually made in China by Wuhan. Just wondering if anyone here can verify that. I have only experienced the Wuhan china cymbals and don't consider them in the same league as Zildjian or Sabian. I don't believe I've heard a Wuhan gong.
They are considerably cheaper (cost wise) than either Zildjian or Sabian. Just wondering if there's a big difference in sound?

Wuhan is a city in China and there are a lot of gong makers there. Universal Percussion (the Attack drum head people) owns a trademark "Wuhan" that they put on their line of cymbals and gongs. That was a smart move by them because the name Wuhan became associated with quality gongs. Universal Percussion probably has a relationship with a specific manufacturer over there, but it's possible and probable that Zildjian and Sabian buy their gongs through a middleman that hand picks the gongs over there because sound quality varies widely.
