I subbed with a horn band last summer. Tonight I opened Facebook to find the bassist had posted a news story that the band leader had been arrested last Thursday after robbing a bank.

Truth will always be stranger than fiction. Apparently he’s done time before.

Vocalist Jack Russell met guitarist Mark Kendall in 1977, and Kendall asked Russell to join his band. They decided to form a band together and they called it Highway later changing it to Livewire and then played one final show as Wires. Then in 1979, Russell was arrested for shooting a live-in maid in a botched robbery attempt, and sentenced to 8 years in prison.

Manowar Band

On October 25, 2018, it was revealed that guitarist Karl Logan was arrested on August 9 in Charlotte, North Carolina for allegedly possessing child pornography and was charged with six counts of third-degree exploitation of a minor. Manowar issued a statement shortly after saying that Logan would not perform with them.

I never heard this story before. I’m surprised I didn’t. It’s a way to make a band look like the “Bad Boys of Rock-n-Roll”.

For you baseball fans, there’s John Wetteland.

Former Yankees pitcher John Wetteland will return to court in March to face trial for alleged aggravated sexual assault of a child, court records show.

The 52-year-old former reliever and 1996 World Series MVP as the Yankees’ closer was indicted in March by a grand jury in Denton County, Texas, after a relative accused him of sexually assaulting a young boy between 2004 and 2006, beginning when the child was just 4 years old, the Dallas Morning News reports.

The accuser claimed Wetteland forced the boy to perform a sex act on him three times during that span at his home in Bartonville, where the Texas Rangers Hall of Fame hurler was arrested in January on allegations of continuous sexual abuse of a child.

Wetteland, whose attorney has denied the accusations, was indicted by a jury on three counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child. His trial is set to being on March 2, according to court records cited by the newspaper.

It was known back in the 80's when I lived in Hollywood. The original drummer Gary Holland was caught in a burglary and forced to leave GW. Gary played on the first EP.

Not my scene at all for many reasons, but I’ve always found these hair bands fascinating from a far. It’s like I’m watching a train wreck. Decline of Western Civilization Part 2: The Metal Years says it in many ways.

I knew who you write of. Great pianist. Too bad about his other inclinations.

Since he is famous and it's Illinois maybe he gets to go into the prison with all the former governors and politicians.

I played with a guitarist that learned to play in the 'joint' from two murderers while serving time for car theft and armed robbery where he beat a guy with a chain. He did extra time for an escape attempt in which he assaulted a guard and another of the escapees raped the guard. Often, at gigs, ex-cons would see his prison tats and come up for a chat. Thing was, he was a monster player. Learning guitar in the showers, playing through reworked transistor radios, he had great touch and tone. We got lotsa gigs and if we went to a jam, we went right on stage. We played Larry Blake's in Berkeley, skipping one of the'new band' nights and playing the weekend. Many good guitarists came to our jam including Bruce Conte from TOP (at the time Bruce had a band called Power Play) he brought keyboardist Roger Smith and his sax man at the time and we did several weeks of "VIP" jams with those guys. Bruce told my band leader 'when I get up, use your drummer', made my decade. (We went to Bruce's gig and his band got in trouble when they all came out to my van for a little "safety meeting" and venue employees saw them) Moving, I left the band just before a gig opening for Robin Ford. Despite this guitarist's big talent, within a couple of years, he'd played with and alienated about every good bass and drummer in the area as well as bar owners. Drinking, womanizing and a bad attitude made nobody care how good he was. I wish him luck wherever he is.

I had to fire the front man of a trio I was in back in the early 80's . It was a real cozy Wed- Sun house gig and his drinking was jeopardizing our reputation .

He was a forensic psychologist who threw away a career at Dorchester Penitentiary in New brunswick, among other things . The games this guy could run down on you he didn't learn in no school .

If somebody has put their past behind them and are on a different road, then OK , but if 2 plus 2 isn't 4 more than once or twice, I keep my distance . Same thing if 2 plus 2 is always 4 .

My brother was in a band where the band leader took the gig pay check and bought himself a water bed. The band continued for a while more. Never liked the guy. When I heard that it confirmed why. Why the band members tolerated him was beyond me...
