Bass hoops

I wish I had a table saw...
...I envision how many 16" kick drum
hoops I could cut from my extra
16" generic floor tom.
For my 16" kick drum, of course.

You do realize.......you couldn't do this, right? Your source (shell) must be larger than your target drum, as the hoop must be larger than the drum.

You're correct.
I tried the the shells, and they're both
the same diameter.
The source shell sits on top of the
drum head on the bearing edge of
the target drum.
So it would be a waste of time, labor,
and materials.

The source shell would have to be
about 1/4 inch or larger diameter
than the target drum so that the
"hoop" can pull the drum head
further back for tuning.

Fuhgetaboutit. I'll just buy a 16"
kick drum hoop from DFD.

In a related story.......

I have a 22 in BD shell (black wrap). No intention to use it.....just one of those Pearl made entry level ones - either luan or basswood. Kept it for my specific idea.....

I have a real good router table now. Intended on buying or even making one for a long time. One sorta fell into my hands.....friend gifted one to me when he bought a cabinet company but then decided to phase it out of comission.

Eventually/someday I am going to cut sleeves off it and attempt to make some hoops for 20 in BDs. I am an exclusive 20in BD player.

I will have to research and experiment various methods/joint types.

Somebody posted in the last year or two about buying 18" hoops and cutting them and then somehow rejoining them to make them fit a 17" drum......
