Trying to get a set for $5-600ish for the grand kids to learn on. I'm thinking I want one w a bass pedal tower because knowing where the beater is seems important to me (though I play acoustic). What do you think? Also on the sticks are nylon tips needed or is all wood ok? Thanks

Bass pedal? Totally down to personal taste. Nothing wrong with beaterless. Nothing wrong with old-school acoustic kick pedal and a pad. Totally down to you. I've got many options of both types (beaterless and pads to be used with an acoustic kick pedal), even a Triggera Bix - where the trigger is in the beater itself.

Sticks? Again - up to you. Nylon is less likely to damage the heads (rubber, silicone or mesh) in the same way as it's less likely to damage mylar heads on an acoustic (assuming the nylon tips don't come off and you don't notice). Wood's also fine as long as you check the tips as you would before playing an acoustic, and bin any with chipped tips.
