Put disk 3 from James Brown's "Star Time" in your car's CD player, your iPod and anywhere else you can think. And leave it there for awhile.

The David Garibaldi and Stanton Moore stuff is probably as good as you're going to find, but I'd suggest more listening to get your funk playing together. I'd play along with all kinds of cd's, and just try to absorb what other drummers are playing. Definitely check out the James Brown drummers, Sly and the Family Stone has some serious drumming as well. For some more technical playing, check out some Tower of Power. Also, be sure to check out some New Orleans music like The Meters, the Neville Brothers, Galactic, Dumpstaphunk, the list goes on. Funk music is more about feel than anything technical, so I would just immerse yourself in the music. Your main job as a funk drummer is to make people's butt move.
