Mind totally blown '75 Mahavishnu opened for Jeff beck Dome Arena Henrietta NY.......Billy Cobham and Richard Bailey what an intense night of drumming. I put my sticks away for awhile.
Wow. Lucky you.

Back in the 80s I went to a PASIC show in Ann Arbor Michigan. I walk into the display area and the Remo booth is right by the front door. Billy was sitting on a tiny throne playing a remote Junior Pro set, which was new that year. I really regret leaving my camera in the car that day

What an inspiration he is. During the pandemic, I did a lot of extensive listening through his catalog. What a treasure.

Hard to wrap my head around that!

No kidding... I caught him here in Chattanooga back in September of 2019 so that would have made him 75 I think. My mouth just hung open!!!!!!

Signing autographs after the show, here with one of Chattanooga's legendary drummers, cool for me to catch them together.

I found out about him when a friend bought the first Mahavishnu Orchestra album. Blew me away. Just before that album was released I was introduced to J. mcLaughlin’s two previous albums, one with Buddy Miles on drums, the other with Tony Oxley. They were terrific, but Cobham was a step above both. Happy Birthday, Billy!

This is for the people that don't have time to play all the clips on the above post. A fun piece and a fun solo.

Billy is certainly the most powerful drummer I’ve ever seen and is the only drummer I’ve ever seen play using two sticks in each hand - at Toronto clinic in 2006.

Myself and another drummer met him after a show in Guelph Ontario in 1975,
while we were in awe, blown away by his playing, he was gracious and I remember his advice,
“you must get out and play for people”.
