They had a quartet with Anders Jormin (bass) that recorded and toured in the mid-90s, that's when I saw them. Great to see almost the same band on video now.

Another one: 1995 Charles Lloyd with Idris Muhammad:

I have been fascinated with his cymbal sound, rides almost too washy/crashy, at different timbres/pitches. I find this quote of Billy's inspiring, about making the listener feel nature, wind and rain, through music:

Member @Base recalls the two 20" being a Pre-Aged and an (IAK? EAK?) K Light ride. Any idea, judging by the video above, what the weights could have been?

Instead of hunting the models mentioned above (I do own a heavier Pre-Aged), I'm thinking about setting up two different cymbals that to my ears sound similar: for the lower sound an Agop Trad. Jazz, which at 17something gram is crazy thin/washy compared to what I've played up to now. Might even add a sizzle chain, later maybe rivets. For the higher sound, a Dream Contact crash ride might be closest, or a Mehmet Trad. Light. Might add a Dream Bliss on the far right, for an extra-low sound. Sounds below.

When the above band toured, in the mid-90s, I was just getting into jazz more seriously. I loved the sound, but there were no cymbals like that in any stores, only heavy rides and smallish crashes. I'm grateful to have been able to find a palette of sounds like this in recent years.

One of my all-time favorite jazz groups!
I just received a package of CDs (!) of this band (Lloyd, Stenson, Jormin, Hart), some live concert soundboard recordings 1993/1994. I guess they have been around in bootleg trader's circles as flac etc., I decided to just order the CDs.

A video that somehow didn't come up in searches: 2002, another band, with Geri Allen and Robert Hurst.
