I have a couple sessions with my group of jazz outcasts this week, and while I play other cymbals the vast majority of the time, I always seem to grab this set of (mostly) old Z’s (the Bettis is an honorary old Z) for the sessions.

Mismatched 60’s 15’s
18” Trans Stamp
20” Bettis
24” paperthin 60’s
22” very thin New Stamp K

The set up at home today:

Gretsch New Classic bop kit, Canopus hammered bronze snare.

Hi hats are intermediate stamp ~900g over Bos Traditional bottom 1050g.

18” Trans Stamp with 10 rivets
20” New Stamp 2088g with 2 rivets
22” Craig Lauritsen “PF” ride. This thing is KILLER! 2112 grams and totally controllable, great projection, just a joy to play. The PF refers to a patina finish which he then flat bit lathes to pre age.

This week I've made two different recodings with the same group and studio: one with original tunes and another to tribute a late great guitarist that lived here in Barcelona and died 20 years ago. I've used the same drum set and snare on both (only used a Radio King tuned very low on one tune) but with the cymbals only one will be on both recordings.

Drums:
Gretsch Round Badge 18/12/14 and 4160 COB snare from the same era.

Cymbals (Old K's)

15" OSIIa top/ IIIc Bottom
20" III
22" IIIb
20" IIIb

15" IIIc top/ A Trans Stamp bottom
20" III
20" IIIa
(I've used a 21" riveted Trans Stamp for one ballad, but is not in the pictures)

Closing out a local 3 band mini festival at a local brewery last night had me playing on "astro-turf" for the first time in my life. I figured ship the rug and go right to the soft carpet! I HATE playing outside on the ground as it was still uneven underneath... but I digress! As for the cymbals it was my Bosphorus rig with 15” Master Vintage Hats, 18" and 20" Black Pearl crashes and a 22" Antique ride!

LOL! Good eyes.... pretty new for me, just my third of forth date with it. It is the book end to my Reserve Hammered Copper.
Wow. You have some very nice snares there, sir.

I was using one from the opposite side of the spectrum on our recent gig. :)

Exactly! Are the hats and the right ride Agop 30th?
No, the main is a 22" Craig Lauritsen Kontro, left is a 21" Agop Mel Lewis that has gotten a few hundred grams shaved off, and hats is 15" OS over 60's A top/bottom

And of course 18 12 14 Gretsch Broadkaster I bought new in 2001 and a old Ludwig/Wfl 14x6.5" I've had for 10 years also..
