The old 602 discussion in another thread inspired me to break out the old 23 (main ride position.) It fit quite well with the carved-up Dark Energy Crashes that I almost always use, and 20” Trad Medium Ride that I had up, but after a little experimentation, I switched out the Trad for a 21” DE Light Dark. Wow, the old 602 and the LD - what a combination of sounds.

Mongiello Mondays…finally completed the set View attachment 518000
Wow, no way! I had no idea Mike Mongiello is now making cymbals. He used to bartend and serve at a restaraunt that I worked at down on Lombard Street in Philly. He was a cool dude and we got along well. We even hungout outside of work and became friends. We talked drums a bunch too. I haven’t seen him in years. Glad to hear he is doing well and making cymbals! I’m going to have to email him lol. Thanks for posting.

Beautiful setup btw.

This is great to hear…drumming…it’s a small world…also, six degrees of separation is real!!!!
Thanks for the kind words and Mike is a great guy…always fun to work with and highly talented! Look him up and get in touch.

Pictured at home setup w/ mesh heads for practice but with regular cymbals shown. The Silentstroke mesh heads with low volume cymbals have really been a game-changer for me w/ kids. The setup below is what I've been using (plus a 20" Traditional Med Light Swish far right) for a cover band that's been a lot of fun.
(Left to Right) Paiste 15" DE hats, 16" Signature Full w/ Rivets, 18" Full, 22" 602 Medium Reissue, 20" GB Thin.

That’s a lot of fine metal to haul to a gig.
What prompts such a change during the course of a gig?

Well, the gig was in my neighbors driveway, so that helped! Had gotten some new cymbals, and what better way to try them out? Definitely wouldn’t bring them all if I was carting them to a club.

I posted this in the "office" thread but it really does fit here in the "birds eye" thread. My first test drive this weekend of a couple new Istanbul Mehmet Legend Dry crashes (pared with my Nostalgia 15" hats and 22" 70's series ride).

Interesting that Mehmet has returned to "1623" and poking the Zildjian bear. They have been there before in the early days of Istanbul.
