At a Bozzio solo show not long ago he said that he has a full time drum tech, one guy, who does all of it.

From tonight’s gig. The missing rack tom was unintentional. Loaded my car late last night with a bad, bad cold that made my head so fuzzy I didn’t notice I’d left it out. Enjoyable night regardless. Classic maples, brass Sensitone, K Light hats, 60’s 20” Avedis crash/ride on left and 20” K Custom Dark Ride.

Oops, look at me, behind the times as usual!

Do you always rock 3 crashes?

I've been playing for 50+ years and this is the first time I've used 3 crashes. I had some money left over after selling my e-kit, and I vowed to put the cash towards new cymbals, so I added the 17" crash. The 16" and 18" are my favorites.

One more Rogers kit to share - Blue Onyx 22/13/16/18 and a 8 x 14” Brady Jarrah Block Snare adorned with Zildjian Avedis Series - 15” hats and L to R 18, 22, 20 & 19” pies.

Our local GC has one Avedis series 22" ride in stock, and I'm entranced by it every time I play it. I don't know what Zildjian has done to the Avedis cymbals to achieve that sound, but I love it. Do the crash and hihat cymbals have the same qualities as the ride?

They do indeed! I started with the hats and the 18” crash paired with some old 60s A’s I had used for decades.

I liked them (the new ones) so much paired with my old Rogers stuff and the older Zildjians that I kept adding and adding...

I’m done now, perhaps one cymbal too many, but I wanted something (the 19” in this case) near the 18” floor tom. I still sub some older Zildjians in at times, but more often than not I’ve kept it Avedis series pure.

My 6th kit, Sonor Delite studio kit 3+2 up, 2 down, 2 snares. This was taken in my old studio, so I'll have to get an updated picture.

Woooooah! Are you ok? Have you ever played this thing without earplugs?
No, actually because it's my studio kit, it is always mic'd up and I always have in ear monitors when I'm playing. I never play it without some sort of hearing protection.

I normally use a ride and pair of hats (sometimes two rides - never a crash). I am experimenting with this configuration: Right side ride is a Soultone 23" Custom Brilliant RA ride. Left side ride is a Soultone 24" Custom Brilliant RA flat ride, the far right is a Soultone 24" Custom Brilliant RA crash/ride, and the hi-hat pair is a set of Soultone 14" Custom Brilliant RA hats.
