use maas metal polish. excellent. I researched this idea, tried the maas polish, and it worked like a charm. available at walgreens. the orange bottle paiste cleaner will remove the factory coating and in my opinion, is crap. i have had some paiste 2002s for 10 years and only use soap and water to clean them every once in a while. the factory coating is still protecting the cymbal from oxidation. it will not wear off unless you remove it with a harsh abrasive crap cymbal polish.
cymbal makers make cymbals. they are not good at making polish. i have tried them all (cymbal manuf. brand cleaners) and they suk. period. snake oil.

i used BKF and got great results but like everyone says it takes off laquior so to protect it i used some maas and that stuff is awsome.
i took one off my friends old cymbals and just used some plane old maas it made the thing look 3 years younger!
maas is good for any metal so if you got some old hardware or a steel snare that stuff will make it look great. 8)
