I've seen several threads of late on DFO involving solid, single ply snare drums so It has me thinking about those drums in general. In and out of favor throughout the last 125 years but always an interesting drum.

So Lets see your single solid ply snares, share the goodness that is steam bent here!

Lets start another thread for the stave or segment style drums, lets keep this one the the old school single ply shell models.

The STAVE thread... https://www.drumforum.org/threads/for-the-love-of-stave-drums-share-those-beautiful-stave-and-block-snare-drums-pics.154322/

I have only two and both are custom assembled so I dont even have any of the high crafted models I so lust after like a Craviotto or N&C, but I do enjoy playing these two...

1947 Slingerland Gene Krupa Radio King Legacy Tribute
(6.5" X 14" 1970's Solid Maple Slingerland RK Shell, with a Genuine Late 40's Cloud Badge)

2018 6X14" Solid Walnut with Beech reinforcement rings
(assembled around an Ian Witt bent Sell)

This is one of my favorite snares that I own - its a 6.5x14 Maple Vaughncraft shell with a Trick strainer, Adonis lugs and diecast hoops -
I forget who did the beds and edges and the satin finish but I installed the hardware myself. It's a great all around versatile workhorse
drum.

I've owned many in the past, probably around 30-40 radio kings. Here are the ones currently in my collection.

Here's the two I have, and love to play, - 40s Krupa model radio king, The other drum is quite interesting, the seller described it as a 60s solid shell radio king, but I don't think it is strictly a radio king, It has 10 lugs, and a 3 point strainer but without the snare bridges and a simple butt plate! niles badge with low serial number 5603. So I'm thinking it's a special order drum- early 60s solid shell artist model (hence the 10 lugs) and instead of the standard zoomatic strainer the person ordered it with the 3 point 967a strainer without extended snare system. If anyone has any ideas of their own about this I'm all ears!image.jpgimage.jpg. That's my Moms garden by the way! the drum blends nice! Great thread keep em coming.

Haven't taken a family photo before. They are:
  • Dunnett solid cherry
  • Noble & Cooley solid maple
  • Craviotto Diamond Cast
  • Craviotto Custom Shop
  • 24" Cooperman bass drum
  • 1937 Broadway Standard (a summer project that still needs lots of work to bring it back from the dead)

WOW...39 single ply snares shown already from only 14 folks! Makes me wonder how many of us have them?? More than I might have thought for sure...

6 x 14 Noble and Cooley Walnut SS - #4 of the first run . 8 Lugs- my all time
favourite snare drum . It can do everything and always sounds great .

5 x 14 Maple SS in Honey Maple Gloss lacquer - this snare was so great that
I sold my 7 x 14 N&C Cherry to find the purchase for this snare . I miss the
Cherry but I love the 5 Maple SS more .

I have a 6 x 14 solid Bubinga in the works . Shell was made by Eric Sooy and
it is being finished by Seppo Salminen of TRS Custom Drums . It will be a black
to natural fade Gloss lacquer with all black hardware .
