Well ... we are making some good strides.
Electrical roughed in. Plenty of plugs along the back wall. Both sides now have a Cat5 drop with a four plug situated next to it. I will be able to set the DAWS/RACK on either side of the room.
The electrician will boost the breaker box when he does the full connections. Should be about a week away.
The inspection went off without a hitch.
That paved the way for the insullation ... and just in time - temps were below freezing this morning.
We picked out two new fans ... and we agreed on them!!!
Got the storage closet framed out. We are building that with an extra heavy duty top so that I can store heavy gear up there.
The inside will have film costumes, props, and such on hangers and shelves.
A bit of work on the outside, but nothing of note. A new crawl door, a bit of lower siding.
It's moving along.
A week or two left.

Got most of the siding done. Another hour or two.
Drywall is up and mudded and taped. Sanding Monday.
Was told all should be complete by next Friday. Hmmmmm.

Totally jealous, man! Mostly of the secluded wooded location!

That's gonna be a really nice space. The upgraded electrical is a must. Separate breakers for the HAVC and the recording gear and lighting etc. Didn't see pictures but I'm sure you're insulting the heck out the room. Also expect sound to escape from the windows and French doors without treatment. Maybe it's not an issue.

Gonna be awesome when it’s done. Are you doing a isolated control room?

Nah.
This is for the drums, yes. But I don’t expect to lay down professional tracks here. I travel to Nashville for those. I goof around here. This room doesn‘t compare to the drum rooms over there. I have some soundtrack work to record over there soon, but honestly I don’t do much of that these days.
The VoiceOver tracks is the professional work done in this studio.
And I have a VO Booth for that.
I do quite a bit of that work here.
And there‘s no need for an isolated control room for that.
I have a main DAWS next to the rack that I can work the tracks at.
I have another computer and HD screen inside the booth for live sessions.
The booth is extremely quiet and isolated for that work.
Sometimes the tracks are recorded locally.
Other times we connect via SourceConnect and my tracks go directly to the SoundBoard of the project leads studio of choice … wherever in the world that happens to be.
I have plenty of room to set up my gear and do my work … and play and relax.

Standard insulation. Sound is dampened by the trees and space.
Definitely not an issue here.
I can play at 10 at night and there are no neighbors close enough to complain.
It is quiet.

What floor treatment do you have in mind?

Shaw LVP in an aged oak.
It‘s a luxury vinyl plank that will hold up well.
We have a pallet of it stored at the local floor store being delivered to the house in a day or two.
Should time it well.

That Shaw LVP is good stuff. Should look amazing. I went with a SVP vinyl oak plank which was within my budget. A similar look.

Very cool.
There’s something about oak on a floor.
Congrats.
I‘ve been following your build.
Looks extremely slick.

Well … … …
the “EVENTUALLY” word seems to raise itself up at times.

I’m on location again for a few days while they continue working.
We are driving back and got the word.

The project lead has come down with that man made virus thingy that all the kids are going on about.
He exposed his workers and wanted to let us know he would not come around us while they worked.
I giggled and let him know he and his crew will be taking a few days off until they all get a clean bill of health.
When each one is cleared, they can return to work.
Funny guy though.

It will be a few days before I have an update.

Life has taken this simple drum move and extended it into a miniseries.
For those of you that are still tuning in, I will try and hire a better set of writers.
This show has really taken some odd turns.

Probably best to get everyone healthy before continuing. I haven't had any work shutdowns on my project. I myself got and recovered from covid very quickly with extremely mild symptoms. It no doubt helped that I was already double vaxed when testing positive. Except for my mandatory 10 day isolation which ended a week ago I've been back working and checking progress while still masked. So far the guys have been in great shape. Hope you're back up and running asap.

I’m still away but the contractor sent more pics. Looks like he completed the project.
I will set it up when I return to the house.
I will make sure to post final pics of everything set up.
But in the meantime, here’s the studio space.

Looks fantastic! Complete with primal scream iso booth. That'll come in handy. The walls being a different color than the ceiling is very nice. Any baffles going up?

Thanks. That is a VoiceOver Booth.
And no baffles. I may change my mind down the road, but no plans on it yet.

Got in most of the mics ... still a few enroute.
I worked with Kevin Scott (Sweetwater) and we selected some interesting ones.

I picked up two different full sets of tom mics ... to play around with the sounds
5 x Sennheiser MD 421's for the toms
6 x Sennheiser e604's for the toms

2 x Shure SM57's for snares
AKG C214 Matched Stereo Pair for overheads
Audio-Technica AE2500 Dual Element Cardioid for bass
Shure SM81 for the hats

I've got a selection of large diaphram mics for the room

My studio has 18ft ceilings that slant down to 10ft.
That gives this an incredibly live sound and gave Kevin some neat ideas for what would work.
Anyway, the new French Doors arrived and are being painted.
Install should be later this week.
There's still a couple more items they need to complete prior to me moving in all of my "stuff".

I'm having a custom cymbal storage system built. I designed something interesting and hoping they can pull it off. We'll see this week I believe.
