I have this gorgeous 50s 3ply tom with original gold plated hardware.
It's a rarity and in good shape other than a few gouges in the shell.
If anyone here needs one or knows someone that may be interested please PM me. I'm downsizing my drum gear and I'm thinking it may be time to pass this bit of Gretsch drum history on.
It's not for sale at the moment but if I get some serious interest I may sell it.

Ply shot looks interesting; like to see bearing edge (direct down at) pic (to see ply) IF you still have a head off.

I'll take a head off today and try to get some good pix of the edges. This is a very nice old drum. I think there were some comment from this Forum .... myself included at that time... when this was on eBay 10 years ago. All the hardware had been sprayed with gold rattlecan paint. The seller didn't know the history of the drum.... he bought it at an estate sale in Pennsylvania. He told me the finish looked original and he said the hardware was painted gold. That interested me! I know a bit about the history of cg drums .... enough to know that when they were offered in the 50s catalogs they came with gold plated hardware. There were some exceptions I've been told.
I took a chance and set my bid very high.... high enough that if someone beat me I'd feel okay about losing the auction. I won it. When the drum arrived I took it to a local jewelry store and had the hardware examined. The chap there carefully scraped a small spot on a lug... very small... and put a lens to it... looked at me... smiled and said that's gold plating under the paint. He told me to take some alcohol and soft rags to the hardware. All the paint came off with no damage to the original plating. See my photos above.... showing hardware after the paint was removed. I showed photos of the drum to Chet Falzerano and he said it's a great find a 'rarity'
I might even tuck some good calfhide on this one. It would be icing on the cake I think.

I don't like my phone camera SamsungG 20. It doesn't take good closeup photos. Samsung decided not to put the Macro feature on this phone.
Here's what I have on the edges.

so the broadkaster 3P is thin outer ply fat middle ply and thin inner ply.
I see it. The other picture in post #1 of lug exposed looked all same thickness)
Anyway those FB groups have another audience sometimes global may have interest

Yes... I know. I've deleted my fb account. Then on second thought I wanted to still use the messenger there. I signed up again but under my middle and last names and I only use Messenger. I realize it has a very good market place so I may go back into the Frey for that reason. It is a very good social media I'll give it that. I was spending way too much time on it and decided to leave. It's been okay. I've not had to seek medical help so far

Over the past two days I glued up some open-ended wood fleshhoops to fit this drum and tucked calfhide on both heads. The calfhide was used.... from a 16inch drum and a snare. The hides are good. Not completely dry yet but playable. Calfhide always sounds so good on the toms.
I have it sitting in with my Gretsch 1959 Progressive Jazz drums
