I purchased an Oaklawn COB Asitocrat snare a few months back from Chris Hawthorne. It's a rare one but odd too. It has a 99 Super bottom hoop but standard strainer & butt. But the weirdest thing is there is no snare bed. First time i’ve ever heard of a Camco with no snare beds. Nobody I know has the knowledge to crimp new beds in for me nor do I have the balls to grind one in. I ended up ordering a Rogers set of Dynasonic wires. It worked! I put it next to my Chanute COB and noticed at some point they raised the position of the strainer.

Interesting!!!
I just looked at mine and the LA snare looks higher than the Oaklawn’s but not as high as yours.

Notice the beer tap strainer is lower on the earlier Oaklawn.
Maybe more can chime in.

Wayne,
Check out the difference on a 6.5x14. Top is an early Oaklawn, bottom is a late Oaklawn Oval badge.

Wow quite a difference.
Seems like they moved them up as they were going along.
Nice snares you have, BTW

Camco never could drill holes consistently or evenly, including strainers, lugs, mounts, and aligning lugs on drums. The Red Sparkle is an Oaklawn and the Stradivarius is a Los Angeles. Funny how LA continued the tradition

Congratulations on your cool looking COB Camco snare drum! It looks pretty clean from what I can see. Hmm pretty interesting observation about the Camco strainer.

I just checked my drums and I noticed all of my Camco snare drums strainers seem to be even with the lugs and center mass. None of them are too high or too low...
