It sounds bad and I don’t know what’s causing the sound. When I put my phone on it to muffle it, it sounds just fine, but I want to fix the issue rather than suppress it. I got it brand new out of the box yesterday.

Try loosening the 4 reso tension rods slightly on either side of the wires

your heads are out of tune..

take the snares off and we're going to tune this drum..
you have to count the spins you put on the Key---preferably- Two Keys- one opposite the another.
have to have an even count at each tension rod..

On an 8 -lug drum- it's a 4-step procedure with Two Keys...
1/2 turns - 90 degree- at a time - Not full - 180 degree- turns-

1/2 turns- even amount at each tension rod.
Count about 8 -> 1/2 turns on the tension rods bottom head- Even
Put 4 to 6 -> 1/2 turns on the tension rods top head.

Takes the heads - top and bottom- Off and start from scratch.

this method is very simple. 3 half turns per tension rod. same on both side.
Also try an alternative way of mounting the wires.

It sounds like the bottom head is too loose. Tighten it tighter than the batter head.

You may need to tighten/loosen the snares where they are held in the snare bed. For the ring, some Moongel, duct-tape, or Remo rings, or similar, will help.

...fighting the urge to post my head tuning tutorial... :tard:

jOe and Shuffle are right.
I mostly hear snare wires that are cranked too tight (might be out of position, too. Check to be sure its centered on the head).
I've been pretty happy with tensioning my heads to 1.5 turns, but I count my turns different from what jOe does, so try it his way first.
I'm sure it will work....and don't forget about what Shuffle said, too. Very important.
Good luck.

It will ring if not hit in the center. Top head is import Ludwig. Tighten bottom and check snare tension. Top seems loose too. What kind of snare...metal?
