Does anyone know if there is software that can be used or something that would allow you to create your own drum kits using your own drum samples and import those into your Roland TD-9 module using a USB flash drive?

No, you cannot import samples into the TD-9. You can, however, purchase Vex packs (from vexpressions.com). These are not new sounds. They take the module's internal sounds and tweak them so that they sound better than the factory default kits. Once you purchase a Vex pack online, you can load the settings into the module via USB. You could accomplish the same by tweaking the module's internal parameters but many drummers prefer to let the Vex programmers do the work.

No, the USB-A connector on the TD-9 is just for backups or for playing recorded audio (full song files) to drum along to.
