A really good DFO turnout! And Kat, you look great! Miss you!

Barring any more deaths in the family, I will be there next year! Ugh, hated missing this one, but thanks for the pics!

So great to see everyone! I had a blast but had to cut out early Sunday to save my voice. Went to Maxwell's this morning before my flight and OMG, he's got so much great stuff there. I'm glad I can resist temptation.. although the Sonor Sharktooth bop kit was VERY hard to pass up.
Sorry I missed the big picture, but glad to be. in a couple of the others. See you all next year!!

This is the first year I stayed to attend both days . I spent so much time catching up with friends and catching up that I did not get to really look at the booths till Sunday . I spent most of the show with @CSR and @drummaman1 . We got out to Portillo’s and Giordano’s for Deep Dish .
I was casually looking for a Champagne sparkle 60’s Ludwig Jazzfest to go with my Ludwig kit . I thought I had one at Texas Vintage Drums but it was already sold .Texas Vintage Drums had a Pioneer so I snapped that up as a consolation.
I also grabbed one of the H&B $20 snare drum bags , 5 Ludwig T shirts and the INDe Parts to replace the original Ludwig parts in my kit . @CSR and I travelled to Maxwell’s and boy let me tell you that is one fabulous shop .

Thanks for all the pics and updates. Had to pass again this year. Been putting off buying a kit too. Figured I’d find something easily at the show. Alas…my plan was foiled.

I’m gonna go look disdainfully at my stupid e-kit now.

Fantastic to see several DFO friends on Friday. Sorry I missed the team photo on Saturday - I thought it was set for 1:30 and when I got there the crew was long gone.

I had a great time at the show. Brought three kits to sell in the Consignment Booth and made a deal for all three with Winnie from The Netherlands on Friday while I was just getting them set up. That meant I had all day Saturday to walk around with "available funds" in my pocket - a day-long exercise in resisting temptation. I came close to buying a Rogers Black Onyx kit or a similar Galaxy Rogers kit. Instead I picked up a new 21" Zildjian K Sweet Ride cymbal and bought a 1968 manufactured 20" Oyster Blue Ludwig bass drum. This matches up perfectly with my other '68 OBP drums and will allow me to switch to a smaller 12/16/20 configuration as an option.

Great to see you all - nice job (once again) by Rob Cook.

For those of you who have attended the Chicago show over the years, and others around the country, is this the best of them all? I'm nearing retirement and would like to target one of these shows at some point down the road.

I haven't been to any of the others but the Chicago show is reputed to be the largest drum show in the world, certainly in the USA. I'm just lucky not to live that far away.

I guess it depends on what you are looking for. This was my first time, and I had a great time. If you’re into vintage stuff this is definitely the place to go—so many dealers with kits, snares, hardware, parts, wraps, animal skin heads, old cymbals, traps, anything you need. New companies were there too, and lots of little boutique makers. The vibe is great also. I only saw very few people who were acting like stars, and even they were mostly willing to have a chat with anyone. The clinics were casual and approachable. It’s called the drummers’ family reunion, and the name fits.

If you’re looking for tons of clinics and all the biggest players, go to PASIC in November. If you want a great, friendly drum hangout, go to the Chicago show.

The Chicago show is on a different level compared to the other smaller shows (which used to be really cool too).

It's cool to see all of these photos! We were unable to commit to the Chicago show this year but will attend the Music City Drum Show in Nashville. It's also refreshing to see booth prices stay at reasonable levels compared to NAMM booth space which hits you pretty hard.

Here's a tid bit for you.
Watching some of the video walk throughs of the show on youtube last night and I see the four piece (12/16/22) black nitron Gretsch set in footage taken before I bought them early Saturday morning...except, at that point it's a five piece set. That's an interesting twist. So where did the 13 go? Who bought just the one drum (black nitron 9x13 late 70s)? How much did they pay? How much was the set as a five piece?

Inquiring minds want to know. Anyone who was in there Friday or pre-show Saturday know any details?

Doesn't really matter, I'm happy with what I got...well unless the 5 piece version was the same price as the abridged version.
