Crash ride suggestions?

I use a 24” Paiste 2002 Crash. It does it all

Damn Ive never seen one of those. I do have several vintage Paiste 2002 24” rides with the labels already rubbed off. I guess one could actually be a crash. What is the weight of your 24” crash and is it red label or black label?

Paiste Rude Thin Crashes. I found the 19" and the 20" were extremely versatile, good ping, not too washy, very solid crash, and excellent bell. They turned out to be great trade-off ride/crashes for me. Would also give you a big loud crash to option into your metal kit as well.

Zildjian K crash-ride or a new thin A Avedis. Either would be good. Certain Zildjian K Cons would fit the bill.

I am surprised nobody has mentioned the Sabian HHX Evolution Ride. I have a 20" model and it is an awesome cymbal for heavier music. They are very plentiful used at decent prices (under $200).

A few options from Sabian that could be suitable, sorted from heavy/pingy to light/washy.

21" HH Raw Bell Dry
22" Artisan Medium
22" HHX Legacy Heavy
21/22" HHX Evolution
21" HHX Groove
21" HH Vintage

The new AAX Medium, AAX Xplosion (yes, a ride) or AA Bash could also be good options if looking for a brighter sound (and not so pricey).

Try a A. Zildjian deep ride at about 2800g. Big bell, flat bow.

It’s a Red Label. I need to weigh it. I got the idea from one of my heroes, Ian Paice.

I have a 21 K Sweet Ride that I mainly use as a crash, but it rides in a pinch. I also play loud music, so maybe keep this in mind for yourself.

I went to drum center and the metal drummer in me just focused on "PING" vs overall crashability...huge mistake. I bought a 19 Paiste Rude Crash Ride. Its a decent small ride but honestly I hate it for crashability. Its very loud and low and slow with resonance. Sounds more like hitting a heavy crash vs a true crash cymbal. I test out my K crash ride and its a awesome crash i just hate it as a ride and the bell for me is also not great.

I went in with the mind set of getting the 2002 20" medium ride but I didnt love the bell. The Sabian frequency ride seemed cool. I may go back to that or one of the AAX rides they all seemed decently crashable with a great bell. Non really had a ideal ride sound for me but I figure go with a good bell and crash if I can only have 2 out of 3 things. I know the perfect mix of all things doesn't exist especially when my brain likes a very defined PING. Its just from playing very heavy rides for 20+ years of drumming. I would say the crash ride Rude has more ping and definition that most of the normal "medium" rides I tried out. I may just keep it for now but its garbage as a crash in my use case.


Maybe a AAX medium with a raw bell, the sabian frequency or possibly a A brilliant sweet ride or the K hybrid ride.

ya I see those for under $200 much cheaper than all the new AAX rides.

Way too many excellent choices already, but no one has mentioned the 19 inch K Con crash/ride. I have one that checks all the boxes you mentioned.

Red label. Ian Paice has one, so I thought I would try it out.

I plan on setting up a second kit in my drum room but its limited on space and I wanted to do a fun simple setup. I mostly play rock - death metal stuff this kit would be mostly just for rock. I wanted a crash ride for it to save on space and if I decided to take the kit someplace a easy setup is always preferred. Looking for probably something that doesnt exist but figured I would ask.

Ideally I want a 20-21" ride that is not too washy and has a decent cut to it with a nice bell for accents and a crash that cuts and doesnt have that "i just hit a ride cymbal like a crash sound" if you know what I mean. That heavy slow kind of ring. All the rides I currently own are pretty heavey cause I most play fast metal stuff (zildjian z3 mega bell and a 20" ping ride) I picked up a 20 K crash ride and its a awesome crash but for the style music I play its not cutting enough as a ride cymbal. If it was quieter stuff it would be great.

I was thinking maybe a 21 K brilliant crash ride but I know there are plenty of things marketed as a "ride" that also work great as a crash. I had a mienl classic medium 20" for a short while and it oddly worked OK not perfect but decent. Looking for any suggestions I figured order a few to compare then keep the one I love. No brand loyalty so to speak I typically buy zildjian but if it sounds good thats all that matters.

I highly recommend a PAISTE Giant Beat 20". It's a great Crash and great Ride.

I have a Sabian 18" Crash ride I got for free and I hate it. Does not sound good as a crash or ride. Gonna give it to my great grandson!
