Not my listing. Just perusing and found this refurbished, modified Franken-Oyster.

From the ad: "Very interesting modified drum set made up of Sonor Centennial 6-ply beech standard depth tom shells and a 1960s Gretsch round badge bass drum. The snare drum is of unknown make. All drums have been recovered in gloss black wrap and have had the lugs replaced with what look like Noble & Cooley long tube brass lugs."

There's a good chance that kit sounds good given the shells. Most likely, it was a player's kit, put together for the sound and maybe to avoid tight fitting heads on (what would've been) Gretsch toms. But that's speculation. It would be interesting to know the whole story.

Could just be a few orphan kits that were salvaged to build one that looks right and complete. Nice work by whomever took it on.

The N&C lugs are an equal mystery. What happened to each of these kits, I wonder?

Not N&C lugs. DFD sells them; Carolina Drumworks uses them, as do quite a few others...

I'm sorry Jeff. My mistake. The lugs look identical to the ones on my Carolina Drumworks Bubinga snare, and I assumed you got them from DFD.

And let’s not forget the Ludwig floor tom brackets.

If that were a sale that was local to me, I would be interested. I could see me buying it as a knockabout or in situ rehearsal kit, and ending up loving it to the point where it’s the only thing I used….

That’s how these things sometime happen.

Sonor Beech toms, and a Gretsch Bass drum. That's a perfect studio kit.

No worries! In the photo they do look similar. I just wanted to clarify. :)
