Do you have “Rock Stars” from your area that show up to play at local gigs in cover bands?

Being from the the Bay Area, we live amongst many. Recently, a couple come to mind.

First, the great Jim Bogios, Counting Crows drummer, gigs with a couple bands, one called Lumberyard, along with Jerry Becker, the keyboard player of Train. They played at a local venue I gig at often.
And then another venue I play, the Retro Junkie had Billy Joe Armstrong playing with his local cover band, The CoverUps. I’m sure there’s more but that’s all I’m aware of recently.

Liberty DeVitto used to live and play in Central Florida. Charlie DeChant from Hall And Oates still does and I have done quite a few gigs with him on sax over the years, though it’s been a while. Dave LaRue co owns Bass Central and does a few solo gigs with his trio. 38 Special has a couple replacement musicians from here, though I don’t see them on the local scene much anymore.

Around here, we have Louie Ortega of The Texas Tornadoes/ Sir Douglas Quintet playing a lot of local gigs. Terry Lawless, who plays keys and sax on tour for U2 is another local.

Had Tinsley Ellis come by our jam session. Played a set with him then he left.
Does that count?

Had a guy at a gig years ago, totally drunk, tell the guys in the band that he was the drummer for The Little River Band (yeah, right).

Sat in with the band, and you know the rest. I got a chuckle out of it.

Derek DeBeers, from Juluka and Johnny Clegg's band Savuka lives @ ten minutes from my place . He shows up at local gigs . He actually sat in for me coupla days before my hernia surgery . Tough little guy, otherwordly drummer/percussionist loads of captivating stories about Rhodesia and South Africa when he was growing up there. He's got gold records on his wall in the living room .

Jeff Plate of Trans-Siberian Orchestra. He's also worked with Savatage, Metal Church and Machines of Grace. He grew up in Montour Falls, about 1/2 an hour away from me and when he isn't touring, on occasion, shows up and will sit in with some local bands.

Yeah. The one I'm thinking of really manhandled my kit, prompting my current zero sit-ins no matter who you are policy.

I live in LA, so yeah, it's pretty common here. There's also like 3 weekly "jam nights." and a lot of the guys who play have bigger gigs and do these for fun when not touring.
