Does anyone have duplicate kits?

Going off the how many drum sets is too many, does anyone have duplicates

I know someone like Bun E Carlos has duplicate Ludwig’s in different finishes.

I am guilty. I have a Sonor phonic in rosewood 8/10/12/14 and 18/22 and one in oak 8/10/12/14/16 18/20. Mainly ended up with 2 because the oak was a great deal. The rosewood were unfortunately pricy.

I've got two kits with 18" basses.
I've got three kits with 12" rack toms.
I've got four kits with 14" floor toms.

I have two Tama superstar kits in cherry wine both are 24"12"13"14"15"16"18"
w/just a single matching 6 1/2" mastercraft snare drum between them
I would have liked to add the smaller toms, but I am too cheap to lay out the sort of dough typically asked for them. I also have a 22" bass drum that suits me much better.
I wish at least one of these monsters had standard depth toms
unfortunately they are the power depth on both.

5 duplicate kits in 3 different lacquer colors. 2-black , 2-cherry wine , 1- aqua marine. All toms and basses are 1980's 6 ply Superstars. I have 2 duplicate concert tom kits. All snares are Ludwig 402 COB. I also have many extra toms , basses , and stands to make 3 additional duplicate kits in different colors.

I have three Slingerland kits from the 1960s. Different finishes but several sizes are duplicates and the drums could be swapped around.

Yep me 2 in Phonics. Got a shell bank in rosewood but a duplicate beater in 13 16 24. The Oaks are nice too. Actually more rare then rosewood by the numbers.

i always thought the idea of multiple kits was variety. my 3 kits are 3-ply ludwig, but with different sizes and finishes. 22/17/15/12 red sparkle. 24/18/16/14/13 walnut thermogloss. 28/20/15/14/13 natural mahogany.

Duplicates in color but not in sizes. 2 Oyster Black Ludwig kits, 2 Slingerland WMP, 2 Gretsch RB Silver Sparkle, 2 Gretsch RB Tangerine sparkle, 2 Ludwig Red Sparkle, 2 Ludwig Burgundy sparkle sets, 4 Gretsch USA Custom Burnt Orange sets. I think that's it.

I laughed when I saw this. Not at the person who came up with this topic, but at myself!

Of the 10 kits I own, 8 are technically duplicates, meaning the same sizes. The only kits that are the same sizes and finish are my ‘62 Gretsch Name Band and ‘66 Rogers Holiday, in Black Diamond Pearl.

8 of the 10 kits are 14x22, 16x16 and 9x13 with assorted snare drums. And several duplicate snare drums in different finishes.

Yep, I have two of my three that are basically duplicates... both thin shelled maple with 10,12,13, 16 floor and 20" base. One has an additional 14" floor and 22" kick in the shell bank, but the core kit is the same in both. Different heads and tuned very different... enjoy playing them both for very different feels.

All 3 of my Sonor kits are the same sizes 8/10/12/14/16/22, but all are different species (Maple [SQ2]/beech[Ascent]/Birch[S Classix]) and finishes (Rosewine Dunes/Iridium Diamond/White Oyster Pearl). Makes it easy for cases and heads..no random or odd size to deal with.

Currently all four of my kits are unique configurations. It could be argued that my 2019/2020 Gretsch USA Custom shell bank allows me to duplicate the setups of my other three kits. The shells are different than my 1960s Slingerlands, 1970s Slingerlands and 2008 DW Collector's Series kits, so even that isn't really a duplicate.

In the past I've owned duplicate kits in different finishes a few times, although usually not for long.

I had two mid sixties Slingerland Gene Krupa Model 1N kits, a white marine pearl and a champagne sparkle. I ended up selling the WMP and keeping the champagne.

I owned a silver sparkle mid sixties Slingerland and blue sparkle mid sixties Leedy (Slinger-Leedy) kit in the same sizes at the same time. I sold both in order to buy a Gretsch Round Badge Progressive Jazz kit.

I had the mid sixties champagne sparkle Gretsch Round Badge Progressive Jazz and an early seventies Midnight Blue Pearl Gretsch Stop Sign badge kit at the same time. The MBP kit was larger, but had Progressive Jazz sizes within it. (So I guess that counts.) I sold both of these once I got the new Gretsch shell bank.
