14's with my Downbeat set, and 13's with my bop set.

If I used bigger drums, I might go with bigger cymbals.
But I used a 24" ride with my bop set a while back, and it just felt unbalanced.

I have:

(2) pairs of 15s
(1) pair of 14s
(1) pair of 13s

15 is my favorite size but they don't work everywhere (an excuse I tell myself to keep buying cymbals)

Favorites: 14" early 70's new beat. Works for everything!
Favorite for my garage rock band: pair of 16" Paiste 2002 concert. Heavy and thick, but still got that Paiste shimmer and a great deal of wash. Took a chance a bought them unheard and they've been on the stand for that band since!

I play 14's all the time, pretty much the same set all the time. That's been going on for a decade +. I know them well.

There is a set of 50's A 15's on a e-kit at our front mans room, they are awesome. Love the HH's, not so much the e-kit.

I started out on 13's, long time ago. I think I remember their quickness, I do remember their lack of volume. I've been jones'ing another set of 13's but haven't pulled the trigger. Volume just not a big deal for me anymore.

I've used the same beautiful-sounding Zildjian 14" New Beat hats since 1969, when I received them as new! I'd probably be OK with 15" hats, but if I was buying today, I'm sure I'd gravitate to the 14"!!

I only have 2 sets of 14s left: 14" 70s New Beats and 14" Paiste Alpha Power. I sold my 14" 2002 SEs and Giant Beats, since I have them both in 15s and prefer those. Have many pairs of 15s and don't see myself going back to 14s anytime soon, but I did pull out the Paiste Alphas the other day for a recording and forgot how quick they are. It was fun.

All 13s and 14s for me. There are a couple of 15s that I wouldn't mind having if I had the cash, like the 15" 602 sound edge and 15" 2002 sound edge. No other 15s or larger tempt me at all.

I'll stick to my 14s.
My hats are two Bottom cymbals for a
tighter crispier "chick" sound when closed,
and a brighter sizzling wash when open.
And I can also play their bells like
minature ride cymbals.
+1 for two bottoms.....as in my reply I have both 13’s and 14’s in the two bottoms pair.
13’s are most excellent for reggae/ska/funk stuff and the 14’s are great for (rawk) volume!!!
A little “tone” and a bunch of warmth can get lost, but the two bottom combo cuts through the guitar frequencies.....
I have a pair of Dream Bliss 15’s where they sound good any way....top on bottom and bottom on top....almost a self eq’ing set of hats.....too harsh....flip ‘em around, a little more bite....flip ‘em around.

I have been playing some 14” Sabian AAX hats and just bought some Avedis Zildjian 70’s 15” hats and really like them.

Medium-heavy 13s for me. I use an old heavy set of Italian 12s in the piano trio.

I have always played 14" Zildjians of some sort. The past few years I have been using an old Z top over a quick beat bottom. They just work for me!
I had a set of old K 14" hats bought in the 60's that sounded pretty good but the holes didn't line up and I felt they would sound much better if they did line up. Also my ADD didn't like the holes not being right!

I love my Paiste 2002 SE 15's!
I have a pair of 14" SE Sigs that I like also but they just don't get as much use as the 2002's.

I just traded a paiste sig full crash for some 2002 SE 15's. they should be here by the 19th. I sure hope I like them. Never used 15s before and I am really looking forward to trying them out. Should work great for an out door gig coming up in a month.
