I need an aux set of new 20/12/14 padded drum bags. Just wondering if anyone has a recommendation from experience on a particular set/vendor. Looking to spend under $150 if possible. I see quite a few sets with 22" bags but not many with 20s.

Thanks a lot.

Protection Racket padded bags work very well for me. With "cheap" bags you end up fighting the bags to fit the drums into them after a long hard gig. You don't have to fight these bags. The drums pretty much have plenty of fit room, which makes it much easier for me to pack my stuff quickly. I'm not sure about prices, but to me they are the best.

I'm a protection racket fan, but have heard great things about the Ahead bags. I also have a few Drumseeker bags. While the padding is nice, I find the handles are too long and can make drum carrying a bit awkward.

I've used Humes & Berg Tuxedo bags for decades now. However, I recently purchased a set of their Galaxy bags for my 1967 Slinglerland kit. Excellent workmanship and I really like the rubberized handled attached to each strap. And, lower prices than the Tuxedo line! My sizes are 14x20, 16x16, 14x14, 8x12, 5.5x14 and 4x14. I found the best prices at Interstatemusic.com

I've attached a picture showing the 14x20, 16x16, 8x12 and 5.5x14 bags. Hope it helps!

Drum bags are an investment. They will most likely survive many drumsets bought and sold. provided the sizes remain the same from kit to kit.

My one set of Protection racket (about $300 for all five drums) were used for three drumkits that I bought from 2008 to 2014, and besides the logo looking a little "worn" the bags hold up.

Humes and Berg Galaxy is your low cost option, but in all seriousness, spend the money, get a quality product. You will have it for years with proper usage. They will keep your drums looking great.

I bought some Cadillac Sacks from drummaker.com when I put my set together in 2001. They've been in constant use ever since, and still look and work like new. I have 14 of them in various sizes, and have had no problems with any of them.

A set of 3 in the sizes mentioned above would cost around $250.

As of this year, another Ahead Armor fan. As Groovepig mentioned no shoulder straps which I was use to also, but can still carry the rack/floor/snare all at once w/out them....just have to set one down to open door! : )

I may have a set of bags for you if interested that would certainly be in your price range but may be larger than what you are looking for and hardly used. Contact me if interested.

I use Protection Racket bags for my main gigging kit and I recommend them.
However, I also have a set of Humes & Berg Galaxy bags for another kit and they're great for the price. They're well made and have decent padding, but my one complaint is the zippers don't open far enough. With the PR bags unzipped, the lid flips out of the way so I can just drop the drum in, but with the Galaxy bags it seems like each zipper needs to go a couple more inches to make it easier to put the drum in. But if your budget is tight, the Galaxys are a good quality bag.

I use many brands of soft cases but my favorites are Ultimate Support Series One bags.

http://www.ultimatesupport.com/products/instrument-cases-and-bags/uss1-jazz-series-one-set-of-soft-cases-for-drum-kit.html

They're REALLY NICE bags, well-padded, and as durable and well-designed as any brand available, but less costly.

Some retailers have marked them as "discontinued" but I still see them for sale here at $179 per set:

Ultimate Support USS1 Series One 5 Piece Soft Drum Case Set- Jazz Includes:
  • 1 x 16x20
  • 1 x 14x14
  • 1 x 9x12
  • 1 x 8x10
  • 1 x 5.5x14

SKB makes a nice padded drum bag that will fit I. Your budget . I bought a five piece set off EBay brand new for just over $100 . They come up for sale on eBay frequently.

I have Protection Racket bags but as previously stated they will not fit your budget .

I cannot agree more - call Fred and he will make you a deal. I have 20+ year Beatos Pro 1 bags. They are amazing. Buy once, and cry once. Plus - Fred will do custom stuff if you want regarding strap colors, lengths, "old style/new style".

The bags are made in Huntington Beach.

Recently, I cheaped out and bought one of the bags mentioned above and not the Beato pro1 I really wanted. I wish I had bought the Beato. Recently I ordered 2 pro1s. I know they're not in the OP'S budget, but if you call Fred he may discount the price.

You get what you pay for, cheap bags will inevitably fail. I'm a fan of Beato Pro 1's. Yes they're pricy. No, I wouldn't buy anything else. Yes, I trust all my drums in them short of touring & having someone else handle/load in/load out my gear.
