Drum hardware maintenance & lubrication

Back when i started, I used wd-40 on a cloth, wiped out gunks and dirts, add some lubrication.

But then later on, I found out it will eventually add up more dirt, (is that true?) so was reluctant to do that.

I’ve seen some suggestions for different lubricant products but couldn’t really narrow it down to one.

Any solid/safe suggestion for tension rods and pedal clean/lubrication?

Liquid Wrench will do a number; it's more of an oil;
WD40 is more a water disperse'r

WD40 has had the best marketing in the world... it is NOT a lubricant, throw it away.

WD stands for WATER DISPLACEMENT... it is a SOLVENT and rapidly evaporates.

Sure, it can lubricate a bit for a little while, but then is gone.

Use good old Three In One Oil (or Liquid Wrench) for moving metal parts, a good wood oil (Old English?) on wood (guitar fretboards), and white grease/wax/paraffin (or in a pinch, lip balm... really!) on threads.

Yeah i thought wd40 was trustyworthy but apparently not.

I used plumber valve grease on my tension rods last night. All I had on hand. Worked great.

I clean everything with an ammonia free glass cleaner, and use a dab of NAPA Sil-Glyde on every threaded component.

I’ve always used white lithium grease for my tension rods.

Never lubricated any of my pedals.

Same here. Never had a problem, and some of my drums have been in use for decades. Then again, I don't leave them out in the rain. Well -- there was that one time...

That's a very good question but every can of 3in1 I have ever seen under the sink or dug out of a toolbox or the junk drawer was always rusty.

This is the only thing I have ever used, and I do put one or two drops on the tension rod when I replace heads. As far as cleaning the drum, I have some good guitar polish and I just spray and wipe down the drum, lugs and all.
