Well, tomorrow morning my son and I are heading to the airport to join many like minded people at the Chicago Drum Show. I may have already blown my budget before I even leave Kansas City. This was one of those poorly worded Craigslist ads for "Full Sized Drums" with many blurry pictures, but enough to know I should take a closer look.

The ad promised: "Mix and match set, two are vintage pearl maple shell, three matching, silver snare with stand. I have some of the hardware took a pic of what I have. Make me an offer please email."

The seller was disappointed after buying them from a coworker that he did not get all of the pieces and that the drums did not comprise one matching kit. He therefore purchased an all matching new kit that he liked better. He was happy to find someone willing to take his mismatched group of drums off his hands.
Here are a few pictures from the listing:

Here are the ones that got me interested:

Here a few shots I took of the drums after I got home and unloaded them into my basement:

The breakdown is as follows:

1960s pre-serial Slingerland Niles badge 22" single tension bass, Black/Gold DuCo
Matching Slingerland 9x13 tom (no badge) "OCT 1962" date stamp, Black/Gold DuCo
1960-63 Ludwig pre-serial 4x14 Downbeat snare (no date stamp), Black/Gold DuCo
1955-59 WFL 16x16 Floor Tom in Black Wrap
Pair of Zildjian 15" high hat cymbals, 1960s stamp
Zildjian 18" ride cymbal, 1960s stamp
1960s or 70s Slingerland high hat and snare drums stands
Slingerland Epic bass pedal footboard
A Pearl Power Tom and a Peace hand hammered steel shell snare
Some miscellaneous stand pieces
The Ludwig Method Book that I had back in the 1970s.

This was a nice way to start off a weekend of vintage drums. See you in Chicago!

I was really happy to get these. Heading to the airport. I will figure out what to do with these drums once I get back. I will likely keep the Downbeat snare and the 15" hats and sell much of the rest. I have my annual vintage drum garage sale in two weeks.

Check out that bass drum.
I once had a 50's Slingerland single tension blue/silver duco bass that was Masonite!

The WFL floor tom has landed with its new owner. I am thrilled that pedro was interested. I was able to return the favor he extended to me when he sold me an aqua sparkle 9x13 WFL tom that I needed to complete an estate sale find last fall.
That's great to see...people helping people! Especially when looking for that elusive part or drum!
