This 60's Crown MIJ red sparkle stencil was up for sale in my regional CL....originally made as a 12,14,20 jazz kit. Owner told me he received zero calls on it over 3-4 weeks. I saw it and loved the quality of the wrap and chrome....bought it Sunday. Too bad it was modified from single to double rack tom. But it sounds good. The snare pops and the 14" floor tom thunders. Snare has the unusual style rectangular stab throw off arm that points right at you. The vintage cymbals netted the drums and hardware down to about $75. Very nice and complete Ludwig 60's spur-lock hi hat stand.

Earlier crown kit (mid 60's?) with re-rings, wood bass drum hoops with inlay and heavy "L" arm with a heavy single lever tightener, little gold script decals for "badges," 8 lug snare/kick, and heavy-weight, chromed stick-saver hoops. Crown later went to metal kick drum hoops and the huge Rogers-like metal letter badges in the later 60's through 70's. Orig Crown reso heads. The mfg copied lots of features of the USA made drums. Interesting how the kick and floor tom re-rings are small and finished looking. The other 3 drums have deeper and rougher looking rings in a color similar to the shell....almost defeating the purpose of a thinner shell. Maybe they just tossed in whatever they had?

There's a lot going on with that kit! Right off the bat you see 8 extra holes on the bass, unoriginal hoops.
Those drums are originally drilled for B&B lugs, switched over to beavertails so a lot of extra holes on all the shells.
The wrap is stretched and bubbled around the top of the lugs, common from the b&b's. The chrome is pretty beat up a lot of the tension rods are rusty and unoriginal especially the 12. Unoriginal floor tom legs and tom post.
That kit is shot!

Bummer, I will admit I did not look closely enough, just saw the sizes and price and shared it.

Interesting. My Crown MIJ kit above has that same wrap stretch/wrinkle above every floor tom and kick drum lug. I just figured it was normal for these older "cheaper" kits as the wrap dries out. Didn't know it sometimes even affects top of the line drums.

Just posted yesterday, a Gretsch USA stopsign kit, One 5 piece with 4 toms no snare, looks to be in great shape. I texted the guy and he wants 900 for it. He might even take less. Here are some pics he sent me. Wish I could get them myself but limiting my self from buying anything for a while. The Craigslist post is so vague I don't think he is going to get much interest.

Also in the pick is some custom set 5 piece with snare wants same price but will negotiate.

That Gretsch is cool. I wonder how many people we have as members in the Boise area?

If your near Vinita OK, local pickup auction, there is an older Acro, possible 60s (on far left of pic, might even be 6.5 cant quite tell from pic) and some older cymbals in the lot plus some not so great other stuff that will probably keep price down.
ends sat 13. is at 5 dollars now.
That's a standard 14x5 Acro, but the real prize is likely the Supra.
