This just popped up in Old Saybrook, CT - Rogers 1965 4 piece 13,16,20 Holiday/Powertone BDP with hardware and cymbals $1200. If the lugs and hoops weren't so pitted up and rusty, I might have gone for it. The Rogers shells and wraps were fine. It was the metal parts. No Rogers stands - all rusty lower end stuff. 2nd Ludwig snare was a rusty 1990's 14x6.5. Sounded good though. The extra 18" tom had no badge - but looked to be Tama or even Ludwig late 70's or 80's red wrap. Very scuffy and rusted up. Lots of cleaning and upgrading parts needed. Cymbals were a mix of stuff with one of the 18's cracked (Italian 60's or 70's). New Sabian B8 hats. New DW5000 hi hat stand 2 legged. Probably a fair deal for someone who is not too much concerned with some rust and just want to play them. Probably will be gone within 24 hrs.

Owner got many texts and calls on this in the first 1-2 hours. Someone will love it. Looks much better in photos than in person. UPDATE: the seller pulled it off the market the next day. It seems the family was not yet ready to part with it.

Nice original silver sparkle later 1970s Slingerland kit up on Ebay. 12,13,16,22 and chrome snare. Original hardware, clear interiors with orig heads, Zildjian cymbals. It doesn't appear reserved so it's going to the highest bidder. Probably sells in the $750-$1250 range. Local pickup only in Eastern Ohio near the PA border. If I were inside the 150 radius I'd be considering it. Sometimes these local pickups pretty cheap. Cleveland and Columbus OH are not that far. Kit is in Steubenville, OH

Update: what a shame. Only sold for $585.

Ended at $766 - still seems a good deal; that local pick up only can really restrict the final auction price. Standard GW auctions are usually no bargain.

Hopefully someone here has a new Black Strata kit to show off!

This kit was only listed for about 48 hrs before it sold. Lots of interest of course. One owner with hardly any fading. All orig heads. Played for about 10 yrs then put away in the cases.

1969 Ludwig Super classic Silver Sparkle 12,13,16,22 with Supra, and orig Zildjian cymbals, hardware, and Ludwig vinyl cases - all bought new with the kit.....$1400. Good deal for someone.

That price, and the auction results of many other sets posted here and elsewhere, indicates that when it comes to real sales, our beloved old kits are not bringing the prices we saw a couple of years ago. The used drum market has returned to about where it was about a decade ago. That's great for buyers, terrible for sellers.

I've tracked a lot of Slingerland kits the past year. That one was about the lowest price I'd seen for a decent kit with everything. I'd have bought that kit for $700-$800 if local to me and clean. Similar kits in my area have been bringing $700-$800 with all hardware and orig Zildjians....and they sell fast too. That kit went to a drum flipper with 4000 Ebay feedbacks. So you know that kit is going to be marked up considerably over purchase price....or parted out. It's break up value is in the $1000-$1200 range...depending on condition.

What's the sense in having a "national" Ebay listing for LOCAL pickup only? That's basically a Craig's List auction with a 6 day limit. Many locals could completely miss it in such a short window. And if I had to guess, I'd think for a local seller, CL get's many more looks than Ebay. The seller didn't even have it listed anywhere else. They could have sold the drums by themselves on CL for $500+ then worked on cymbals and hardware...another $500 or so.

Real "fire" sales aren't necessarily indicative of anything but an ignorant seller who didn't really know the ins and outs and maximizing their kit's value. And this kit at $585 was a true "fire" sale. If listed on CL for such a price, you'd have had dozens of phone calls within a few days.

I hear 'ya, and with cymbals included, it truly was a genuine bargain. But those bargains are showing up more and more often over the last year. I truly believe that the "classics" market is being supported largely by folks like you and me who see real value in these kits, but overall the market is down. Drums are plentiful and the market quite limited. And, of course, that market will vary across the country.

Locally, the vintage market never was huge here, and it has remained rather level. For instance, a casual friend of mine had a six-piece script-era Rogers kit in very nice condition, and the last I looked he was still listed at $600. In our local GC last week there was an 8-piece Niles Slingerland dbl bass drum kit in very nice condition for $699. No takers as of a few days ago. For quite some time our local CL had a Niles-era set of nice-looking Slingerland 5-piece at $200. I could never get the seller to respond to my inquiries. And there was a long-running CL ad with a six-piece modular Ludwig set with cases for $500. Don't know what happened to that one.

Of course, there are many kits listed around here priced pretty close to what I see on the broader market, but they sit and are renewed over and again with prices being reduced each time.

Time will tell, but I'm simply convinced that the supply of nice vintage drum gear has exceeded the demand, and the prices are beginning to reflect that. We'll see.

If you're near Santa Fe NM, this could be a real nice deal considering all the Zildjians and hardware are included.
