Over at my Rhythm Section blog one of our contributors is taking lessons from Eddie Knight. Eddie used to be a dealer for Camco – started way back when Geo. Way were still built in Elkhart and is pictured on the back of the Camco catalogs from that era as an endorser!

I sure thought so! Imagine discovering that guy in your town and that he's giving lessons! I'd be all over it like ugly on a gorilla.

Garth has offered to do an interview with Eddie some time once things slow down after Christmas. Once it's up on the blog I'll make sure we post a link in this thread!

Parenthetically, we're doing an Acrolite shootout in the next couple of weeks: Keystone vs. Blue/Olive badge vs. Blackrolite. The guys are going to blindfold me and see if I can tell the difference. We'll post video!

I think swivo mounts were cataloged options so they really wouldn't mods on Camcos.

Those are fantastic sounding drums!! I sold a 18/14/12 a few years ago for a old friend and often helped him swap heads and set up his different snares for him (at that time he was 84yrs old) and that 14 fl. tm just beat the crap out of ANY fl. tm I had ever played! They were the best back then and today take no back seat to anything out here! Doc

A lot of Camco drums, even for endorsers, went through Frank's Drum Shop. At Frank's you could have whatever hardware you wanted installed on your new drumset. They ordered the drums without the tom mounting hardware and spurs. Tjhen they had all of that hardware in stock and a technician to install that stuff while you wait. Don;t know if that's the case with Eddie's drums. but he's in that part of the world.

When I was young and didn't know any better, Tony Williams was giving drum lessons at Drum World in San Francisco. Back then, I wish I had a clue who he was!

You don't see a lot of double bass drum Camco outfits ever....but saw this ad with Joey Preston for sale recently.

Oh WHATEVER!!! I played that kit MANY times, pretty much every week for YEARS! Always thought was kinda goofy, Eddie's goofy old *** with double bass, sittin flush against each other and only one mounted tom! Rogers pedals on the bass drums and those sparkly front bd heads! I remember the t-rods, and now recoginze them as Premier. I'm very glad (and suprised) that he's still alive and kickin' LITERALLY!!! I heard that he's still giving lessons...went to try to find him one day and the address didnt jive (i think he's in a basement of a commercial building again). Gonna go check in with Ed soon, and I'll try to get some pics. Seeing the pics of that kit bring back lots of good memories for me! It was also great to look at the many 8x10's of students and their kits in his waiting room...a pic of me was right be the door, on my 80's Ludwig Rocker II with mini-classics and DOUBLE BASS as well as my home-made white stripes on black wrap (ala Al Van Halen). I'll tell Ed to get hip and get internet and get on here and hang out (he's in his 70's though). Eddie Knight!
