ever use two different sticks?

I’ll revive this long dead thread to add that I too, on purpose, use two different sticks - a vf 55A and an Erskine ride stick get married to make my favorite pair.

Yeah, sometimes. For strictly backbeat gigs I've used a 2B in the snare hand and a 5B in the hi hat hand.

Yesterday in church, I did it on purpose. A nylon-tip Bermuda Schwartz VF stick in the right hand, and and a very old Dean Marley 9R stick in the left - the heavy stick made for a great cross-stick, and the nylon tip worked well on the ride and hats.

Seven years later, still using the same combo. And the exact same sticks. Guess I don't play that hard.

Aside from a brush or blastick in my right hand and a stick in the other, I don’t usually do two different stick models. However, I use Vater 5B wood tips and mix the pairs so that I have a slightly heavier stick in my left than in my right.

Anyone else do this?

All the time. Way back I used a 5B for my right and a 2S in my left when I needed more oomph on the snare. Forever (country, jazz) I have used brushes etc in my right while working a stick with my left.

When the arthritis in my left hand acts up (which lately is all the time) a thicker stick feels more comfortable in my left hand when I'm playing traditional grip. In those situations I'll use a VF 55A in my left hand and a VF 5A in my right. If I want to get loud I'll use a 5B in my left with a 55A in my right.

Not really I have done mismatched sticks when I could only find one of each. I hated it. I'm sure many folks can make them sound even but I never could.

No. Like others I might use the butt end for my left hand at times and often play with a brush and stick for cross-sticking eg Bossas ....

I always use only 1 type of drum stick when it comes to performing live, as it gives you more stability and grip. Better to warm up using new sticks before going on the stage, always to have a good grip.
When I rehearse, no problem, I use old sticks even from a different brand, cause you know they are expensive!

Many times growing up playing in church lol. I put the heavier stitch in my left hand (snare hand) and the lighter in my right hand. Not really an issue now if it happens. It has happened many times since for various reasons… I just play on
