About 30 years ago I started buying and selling drums. A few years into to it, I started making a list which I've pretty much kept up with. Many of these I used and even gigged with, but for the most part they were bought to re-sell.
Once in a blue moon, I remember one that wasn't on the list. Until a few weeks ago, I never put my regular gigging set, that I used nearly every weekend for the last 8 years, on the list.
There are a couple of nice vintage sets that I literally picked up as a favor to someone to ship to them (Camco red sparkle and Slingerland Purple satin flame).
About 6 or 7 years ago I started buying and fixing up some budget friendly sets, and I neglected to keep track of many of them, so there are Pearl Exports, VSX, Forums, Mapex Meridians, Yamaha State Customs, Sonor Force, Ludwig Evolutions, etc. that never made the list. I didn't record the many snares or lone drums, just the sets. The ones I often think I would want back are the '50s Gretsch Broadcaster lugs 20, 12 (with staggered lugs), 16, snare in WMP. Sold to Gary Noonan. I think I profited like $150 and thought I was a mogul. It was seemingly a big restore project, but now it would be a walk in the park to restore. I had a Tama superstar 18, 10, 12, 14 that I got from a forum member, before the forum, for $300, and sold for $350. Duh. And there were two NOS Jasper shell bop sets; a rosewood and a maple, and I really should have kept one...

Anyway, here goes...always thought it would be fun to share this...

Were any of the Slingerland blue glass NOS kits? I bought an NOS set of 3 ply blue glass glitter 2X20, 12,13,14 & 16 FTs and COB snare from you (Master Musicians) back in the late 80s. Still have them and a lot more (19 pieces). Love them.

Only one Sonor and a Force something no less. You’ve dived deep into many fine brands but not Sonor. Very impressive list.
In all the years I've done this, I've only found one "good" sonor set. It was very early on. It was a teardrop set in turquoise sparkle that was very faded. I'd probably get them nowadays, but back then it didn't seem very nice.
The only two Camcos I found were a 20,12,14 stripped of its wrap and a Tama era set. Looking back, the stripped Camco would have been an idea recover project, but I just sold it.

Fun! Let me play.

White CB700 1984-1987 (end of freshman year to end of senior year)
Smoky Chrome Pearl Exports 1987-present
One of my best friends since junior high school was a drummer whose only job has ever been as a drummer. He's only had four sets since 1969 (MIJ satin flame, Ludwig Psych red, large '80s Gretsch set in yellow, and a Mapex Saturn).

That's a cool progression of kits. Good for him. I can't deny I was never settled with the Exports being my last set. I've always longed for something special to be my grown up kit.

I also can't deny I'd be useless trying to enter the pool of vintage stuff. I've always admired the guys who know what they're looking for and how to maintain, restore and preserve a kit for the future. It goes without saying that the past and its mojo wouldn't exist as brightly as it does without that breed of drummer.

I've had 5 in 42 years and I'll never buy one again except for flood, fire and theft reasons.
