Ok, so, 2 Stave, form AVA, both bought form Scotter540, one is here, you have seen the pictures form AVA on hios website and one, the walnut, has received a down deposit, just ned to pay off the balance.

AVA 14X6.5 Stable Stave Mahogany, Purple Stain (On some photo, it's kind of dark brown but the color is really purple, like the ones with the purpleheart snare):

Hey there everybody.

I focus mainly on stave construction.
I'm trying to develop the stave format beyond the basics.
I think stave drums sound fantastic but they are inherently weak by comparison to their plywood buddies.
So in an effort to make them more robust I have a few models that I have developed.

Stable-stave, this is a stave shell with stave re-ring and a 1mm piece of flat wood glued between the shell and ring
Super-stave, this is a 3 ply stave with a piece of horizontal perpendicular maple glued in the middle of the stave
Slim-stave, this one is a 5mm thick shell with a thick 3 piece re-ring, also has a 1mm flat piece of maple glued between the ring and shell.

If you have some time you can have a look on my website.

Here are some vids of my stuff.
I try to demo every single build.
Please try not to pay too much attention to my playing, my skills are VERY basic!
If you subscribe to my channel you'll see the uploads as they happen.

Thanks!!

Craig.

As l comment here and there on your Facebook posts - you're a genius woodworking and drum builder..... as far as stave builds your attention to detail is second to none. Amazing

I have two from him and plan to have a 3rd one, they sound crazy good and the craftsmanship is top notch plus he's super nice to deal with and prices are very fair, especially for me as they are in CAN$!!! In fact I also have a 3rd one, o cast aluminium 3mm purple color anodized that is a great addition to my dunnet, two very different sound and a cast aluminium with a fantastic color...But we are on the Stave Thread, sorry.

Get one...or two or 3, you won't regret it, I can tell you.

Is (I think it's ) Tim Wolf at Joshua Tree Percussion in business?
I play a walnut stave bop kit with matching 6.5 snare that he made the shells for. Pretty nice drums if I do say so myself.

I had one of those Rob schuh hard bop kits back when. I think the best sounding kit I ever had. but a tom shell split so I got spooked and ditched them. Was recently thinking about asking if you still had them and wanted to sell. :)

Figured I'd finally post this somewhere so @owr would stop bugging me about them :)

I bought my first stave snare in 2020 or so from Solid Switzerland and then after chatting with @owr about his Sugar Percussion Skita Spruce, the floodgates opened a bit. I bought a 4" Spruce from Jefferson that was a gateway and then sold my big Sonor Oak Phonic rig (10/12/14/16/20) and a bunch of other stuff and have bought a few of Jefferson's drums. They are beyond fun to play. The set (12/13/14/16/20) and two of the snares (4, 6) are curly claro walnut and the rest are a 7" cherry, a 6" waterfall redwood, and a 4" Sitka (which still might be my favorite snare of the bunch). They are superb instruments that connect with me and Jefferson is a good dude.

This is audio from an iphone sitting on the hvac duct in my practice space but it give the idea. Gorgeous, gorgeous tone.
