Producing pleasing sounds by striking stretched membranes on a resonant chamber ..... not to mention whacking a thin piece of metal ...... has been around for thousands of years.

This activity is both simple and satisfying ...... and requires little or no maintenance ..... and NO electricity!

I think the weather will be much different in 100 years (considering scientists are predicting the polar ice caps may melt by 2040 causing significant warming but on the other hand there may be a mini ice age in 2050 due to the sun cooling) so either way hot or cold I think shells like fiberglass and aluminum will be popular.
But thinking more outside the box, I think there will be things we can’t even dream up today. Like floating toms and cymbals, no more hardware needed!!

Drums are not much any "better" today than a nice 1965 Rogers kit was back in the day. Hardware has improved, but we still rely on a well constructed wood shell with a properly cut edge, and there ya go.

Nothing to fix.

SOOO... if nothing has really changed in the last 60 years, why will it change in the next 60 years?

Remember, there still seems to be a pretty strong acoustic guitar market.

Disagree. Drum shells are much much better nowadays than in the 1960s. And I’m not talking about all of the amazing shell hardware advancements.

There may not be a need for drums or drummers going by the ever increasing use of DJ's and canned music in clubs.....but I won't be around to mourn that

Well...

He's not called "futureman" for nothing.

Imagine walking in and out of a gig just as fast - if not faster - than the guitar player.

Of course that depends on how many effects pedals you add to the thing. :laughing6:
