Eventually, electronic drums and cymbals will become so good that it will seem silly to play acoustic in most situations. Someone out there will still be playing jazz standards on an acoustic bop kit with old K's until the end of time, but everyone else is going to be playing electronic. I foresee trends towards lower volume gigs driving adoption even further. That's already happening.

There may not be a need for drums or drummers going by the ever increasing use of DJ's and canned music in clubs.....but I won't be around to mourn that
Indeed, there may not be a need for anyone but programmers. There is music being created that is made by folks who cannot play any instrument, but have imaginations and the technical skills to create it electronically. I honestly do not foresee a future where traditional instruments will prevail. Your identification of DJs and canned music is prescient.
