As the year comes to a close, and with Thanksgiving approaching, I can't help but reflect. I had a serious case of GAS this year, and acquired lots of great gear. I got a new set of Stage Customs, added 24, 13, 16, 18 to the Renown shell bank, a new Speed Cobra HH stand, and lots more.

I'm super grateful I was able to add so much to my drum room. But the acquisitions I'm most grateful for are my 3 new snare drums. The Ludwig Copperphonic 5x14, the Tama Starphonic Walnut 7x14, and the INDe Bronze 6.5x14 are all amazing instruments. My only complaint is I can't decide which to play, and I'm constantly swapping out one for the other.

What's your favorite Acquisition in your GAS quest for 2022?

I can't keep track. Definitely did some wheeling/dealing in 2022. I bought a couple Prolite kits, a Tama W/B kit, BDC Merlin snare, Summit Peak series snare, and although I ordered my Tama Star kit between Christmas and New Years 2021 I didn't get it until January 3rd 2022 or so. Sold the Tama W/B, 2 Prolite kits, a Tama Starphonic Aluminum, and an SQ2 kit. That said, I think I'm done with GAS. I really like what I have. I'm very grateful.

I knew you had the SQ2s but I didn’t about the Prolites. I’ve been tempted to get a kit, can I ask why you sold them? Were they similar at all to your Star Walnuts?

If you're asking why I sold the SQ2's it was because I wasn't enamored with the heavy beech shells. It's too bad as I got them at a great price. I sold them to a guy in Vegas that owned a studio for just about what I paid for them. I love the sound/tone of the Prolites. IMHO, finding a good used Prolite kit is one of the best values out there right now. They're pretty much an SQ2 kit without the twisty bits on the kick tension rods and the tom mounts. Same shells, hoops, lugs, hardware that you'd get on an SQ2 Vintage Maple order.

So for me 2022 was supposed to be the year of The PURGE. I got a vendors booth at The Delaware Drum Show and the Mrs and I loaded up two vehicles and drove down. To my surprise We did extremely well made a good bit , didn't buy anything, and made lots of folks very happy with their purchases. Then...... I opened the for sale section here a month later. Yamaha RC new series in Classic Walnut 24/13/16 for an insanely good price including shipping. This deal made it possible for my dream of a shell bank of my RC drums possible....and it made a Yamaha AHM kit of mine expendable. I traded it towards a new Gretsch Broadcaster 20/12/14 in Green glass glitter. ( Waiting on that to be completed 1/30/23 ) I'm still downsizing and will make another Vendor visit to Delaware Drum Show and see what happens.

GAS hit me pretty hard in 2022 - purged a lot of gear and replaced some of it with some wonderful gear that really speaks to me .
So here is a list of some items picked up in 2022 .
Gretsch USA Custom 20/12/14 Caribbean Twilight kit - I love this kit

Gretsch Broadkaster 14 x 5 Caribbean Twilight snare

Ludwig Classic Maple kit with Birdseye maple inner and outer veneer 20/10/12/15/18 with matching 5” snare - facilitated by my brother from another mother Treviso !!

Sonor Protean 14 x 5.25” snare

Tama Kenny Aronoff Trackmaster 14 x 6.5” snare

1967 Ludwig Supra 400

Ebenor 14 x 6.5” Stave Walnut snare

Looks like 2023 will be starting off well as I should be receiving a Tama Starclassic Walnut/Birch kit 22/12/16

One good 2022 GAS memory was buying my Tama SLP Fat Spruce near NOLA and getting it home in my suitcase. Was playing it yesterday, love the sound but man that was a tough 2 weeks out near NOLA for work and I got sick there too.

Hey glad to see a "made in Quebec" Ebenor in there. They do good work. A friend of mine had a custom maple and poplar kit made by them that is quite punchy and round sounding (sounds pre-EQ'd and comp'd if that makes sense, but in a good way). I've tried their "Heavy feather" alu snare in a local shop and was quite impressed, although there wasn't enough time that day for me to properly test drive it at different tunings and such.
