Can anyone give me any good recommendations for cymbals that would pair nicely with a Sabian Big and Ugly Phoenix 22" ? I am looking for another ride that is crashable (I love the big and ugly for this reason), but perhaps 18, 19, or 20 inch would be cool. I want a different voice with the same characteristics of the Big and Ugly series. I would like to stay with another sabian.

Right now I have a 18" weckl evolution, but it is really not much for riding on. An awesome crash, but a bit too narrow in purpose.

Those Phoenix are pretty dry from what I've heard recorded, do you want something that dry or a brighter voice for the left?

Maybe a manhattan 18 or 20? There was recently a manhattan recording on this forum- I love my 18 HH manhattan.

I've got that same 18 Weckl but I had Ally K overhammer it at the Vault tour when I bought it. The goal was to dry it out to be rideable, so it sounds more like a trashy paper thin old A ride now with and extra trashy fast crash.

You are right, Something a bit more bright for the left.

What do you think of a 20 inch hand hammered jazz ride? I am looking for something that crashes nicely as well.

The HH Jazz Ride is a good choice. I would try them out first if possible, I have played some that crash easily, and some that are stiff without much crash-ability.

The HHX Legacy 20, 21, or 19 are nice too. Controllable with a nice easy crash, trashy/shimmering.

Are the HHX legacy is what I am leaning towards. Is it too close to the Pheonix? Or brighter, but nicely in the same ballpark?

The Legacy cymbals are low pitched, but have decent sustain/shimmer. I think they would meld nicely!

I was thinking maybe something like this. I usually prefer the sound of the older cartoon script Manhattans to the HHX, but I've heard some great Manhattans from the HHX line too.

I got it a few days ago. Love the cymbal, but believe it or not, the 20 inch Legacy is a lower pitch than the 22" Phoenix. Ug, so I am selling it. I am going to go with a 20" Apollo ride.
