Gretsch 1980 square badge 24/13/16

Here’s a 3-piece Gretsch set that followed me home, but I don’t even have room for them! I am NOT a Gretsch expert at all, but I believe these square badge drums with the USA badges date the set to 1980.

9x13, 16x16, 14x24 with no tom arm

Looks like all the bass drum rods, claws, and spurs are original and correct. Pearl iso feet on the FT legs. Lugs on all 3 are in nice shape, with very few marks. Both toms have a scratch or two on the die cast hoops, see pictures. The dual mufflers are all there on the 13 and 16. The silver interiors look great and edges as well. The shell exteriors are in nice shape overall, especially for the age. A few dings here and there, which are pictured. 13 has a little finish checking, also pictures. I am told these are rosewood lacquer finish.

Bass hoops are natural, which the previous owner (2nd owner of the set) believed to be original. There are some impressions and scratches visible in the natural hoops, from regular use. Nothing terrible.

Just a mistype in the later entry. It’s a 24!

Great kit - maybe walnut, maybe rosewood. The lighting keeps changing the way they look.

I’m not a Gretsch expert as I said, but at first glance these didn’t look the same as Ludwig to me. Now I think you might be right but I don’t see any extra holes. I can take off a spur to confirm if the buyer wishes. I also noticed there is a batter side internal muffler on the bass drum that is incomplete. Pictures follow, 2 of the spurs and one of the muffler inside.

Beautiful Kit- definitely early 80's....maybe 1981- Has the OW (Orange White) interior tag with the "Lifetime Guarantee) cut off. I believe in '82 they went to the Grey/White interior tag.

According to Gretsch’s website, this particular badge was 1980, supplanted by the stop sign badge in “early 1981.” So I suppose it’s possible they are 81s but I’m comfortable saying 80 since this is how Gretsch describes the changes.
