Was listening to the 60's channel on Sirius last night. The dj was telling a story about an interview with Hal Blaine several years ago.
They were talking about the drum sound on certain records, and 'Da Doo Ron Ron' by The Crystals came up. There's a pretty rich sounding drum track on that record. The dj asked if Hal had played the drums a second time, after the main recording, and the second drum track laid in as an overdub.
Hal said, no, there there were two drummers playing simultaneously as the main tracks were being laid down. The second drummer was Jim Gordon (Eric Clapton, etc, years later).
They rehearsed the song once, and then rolled the tape and kicked it off. First take was the keeper.
I dunno, I just thought that was a cool piece of trivia. Those guys were pretty good.
